Default 4" Cutout vs 3" Cutout

Other than cost, is there any huge difference between a 3" and 4" cutout. Reason I ask is because I have a 4" Y pipe merge, but it reduces to a 3". Would there be any sound difference or a performance difference?

that is a good question.i have a 4" reduced down to 3" also with a single cutout and was wondering the same thing. it is only 3" for a very short distance but it is still 3". i was thinking of going to a 3.5" or 4" but didn't know if it would be worth the time/hassle or not. i'll probably just stick with the 3" for now and stop throwing money at this thing haha ! maybe someone has done this or seen it done and can shed some info.

i would lean toward no real gains big enough to spend more on a 4" but thats just my opinion

I remember that one sponsor that has the jeep srt8 and the h/c 500+ rwhp TA saying it was good for 6 horsepower or so on his car. Going from the 3" to the 4"
