Default LT1 383 stroker for boost

Ok I'm in the process of building up my lt1 for boost. Still havnt decided on a turbo set-up or procharger. Heres the parts list, Just wanna see if I'm on the right track for this build:

AI 190cc CNC heads: Heads have a 52.5cc chamber volume, heads decked 034
Callies Dragonslayer 3.750 crankshaft
Compstar 6.0 rods
Diomond Forged pistons with -31cc dish
total seal AR series rings
clevite bearings
4bolt splayed mains

Block will soon be at the machine shop for machine work.
Is that a good set up for a boost motor?? Also what compression should i be at??

Thanks

Stay clear of those Total Seal rings, get some JE Hellfire's instead.

I've got several experiences with those to back me up, but if you want those, pm me and I'll type a story for ya

A simple way to find out would be to call a few reputable builders and ask them for a recommendation. I couldn't find one that recomended them with boost.

Those are small chambers on those heads. What did your CR come out to with those heads and the pistons (assuming you calculated it)?

Stick to somewhere around 8.5-9.0 if possible (I got a feeling you are over 9.0 though with the current components).

The AI heads should flow really well.

The AI heads should flow really well, but I'd look for a little more volume in the runners. I think they'll leave you coming up short on the top end where you're going to need the extra air. Seen it before. They'll perform, I'm not saying they won't. I just personally feel that you'll be leaving some decent power sitting on the table.

what are your plans for this car? mine was originally going to remain a street car so i set compression at 9.1:1. looking back, i wish i'd built things a little differently. figure out what you ultimately want the car to do, and build the engine to exceed it.

The car will be a street an strip car. Just want something that I can drive to the track an run possible 9's. I caculated my CR came to 9.3:1. Looking to get 800hp to the wheels with either turbo or procharger. Just mainly getting the motor built first for now. Anyone else with imput on the total seal rings for boost??

Thanks guys Ryan H.

ultimately if thast what you bwant to do i would go up in cubes a little and also i would go with a head that has a bigger runner. 9 seconds is a good goal but theres a big difference from high nines and low nines. i had similar goals my lt1 and when it all came down to it and i did some research i was like screw it and decided to run a big block in the car with a 101mm turbo. i figured a big block would be more reliable and more horsepower for less money. plus i had a block laying around that was already sleeved and was originally built for a boosted motor.

Gm High Tech Magazine did an article a while back with an lt1 wit a small cam that was 214/224 in duration and it put down 700 hp on pump gas with a ATI procharger. Check into it you might find some useful information.

was it a white SS with a bunch of goodies? if so that guy is on here, ive touched base with him a few times.

question about the heads, are AFR195's going to be a chock point on a 383 thats looking to lay down near 700 to the ground at say 15psi kinda deal?

like 383WS6 says, get it done right the first time

i think i would go for the afr 227cc race heads. and hes right get it done the first time. the other thing ill add to that is build it to handle more then what your going to throw at it so it doesnt break as easily.

YES. I'm referring to one of my best friends cars (You know who you are, and we've been in agreement on the setup) that's running TPIS CNC'd AFR 195's, a big custom specced blower cam, and a D-1SC with a custom inlet that's pulling 15# of boost with methanol injection, and lays 615 at the wheels. It's overcammed and underheaded.

If you can open the heads up to around 215+ CC's, and DON'T go huge on the cam, the car will make good numbers. The smaller heads are helpful on the smaller cube motors, but the strokers like moving a LOT of air on the top end. Put boost to it and small heads become a quick choking point. It's honestly why you see a LOT of the strokers out there running ported stock castings not doing any real numbers or times, because they're choking down. Get the bigger heads on there though and those numbers go north quick. Same for the FI stuff.

so a set of the 205's or what ever it is would be a better investment on a forced large cube motor? and they shoudlent effect the daylie use of it?

jjust looked at the AFR site and the afr 195 comps out flow the 210 street heads

I got some Afr 210 heads with 72 cc, that flow better than the 220 for sale......with T&D shaft mounts and cower lifters...$1500 for all.....Also I got a victor jr E intake, and fuel rails that matches the heads for sale too $350 ........If you interested let me know and I can tell you more about them... I had then on a boosted Lt1 that made over 1100rwhp...

get AFR 210's, 220's, 227 of 215rr. Your going to need lots of airflow, esp. in the upper rpms.(6k+)

just give those 195's to me, , they re no good.

Slomarao, Haha ok!!! I have everything bought already and really dont wanna have to buy new heads. I mean theres alot of people running some sick numbers with stock ported heads so I'll keep em for now. What Turbo set-up would be needed for 800 hp?? something that spools decently fast an sounds wicked!

Thanks

as long as the comp 195 AFRs with the better springs and valve will be good for the street as its alos going to take me to and from work every day should be fine...maybe in a few eyars some bigger heads. larger cam and mroe boost...but every one so far says these heads should be good for peak power around 6k and keep me away from bad driving mannors like my old big block

My only word of advice is go with a turbo it will make you happy in the long run.I am in the process or changing from a procharger to turbo for many reasons mind you.Ask anybody who has had both and almost all will tell you the same thing.
