Pacesetters are great, especially on a budget. In a perfect world, everyone would have Kooks, but we all can't afford that. I am not sure why you would go with shorties at. I am pretty sure you can still be smog legal with mid length, though do your research. I don't have to worry about it, I am never going to be smogged again, 95s and prior in IL don't require it. If you are looking at long tubes, I would look hard at LPP long tubes, a few guys have had success with them, and they are basically Kooks rip offs. It might just be wishful thinking on my part though because I just ordered the LPPs a few days ago. If you get Pacesetters, get the ceramics, I have heard bad things about the painted ones, but again, do your research.

LT's will perform MUCH better than shorties.
The problem is that they displace the Catalytic converter, which will sometimes get you in trouble if your
state requires inspections. They tend to hang a little lower than a stock Y pipe (larger tubing), which can
be an issue of you are lowered.

Hooker, Pacesetter, LPP, Kooks ... lots of options depending on your budget.

You can either run a Y pipe or extend dual pipes out to the muffler(s).

If you want to meet in the middle look into some Mac Mid length headers.

If you aren't worried about emissions, get the LTs. I have coated Hooker SuperComps with Stage 8 locking bolts and haven't had any problems.

A good set of shorty headers can approach the power of long tubes. Regarding headers getting the right pipe diameter correct is more important than length.

Here is the order of importance on exhaust systems.

1. Collector pipe length.
2. Collector pipe diameter.
3. Header pipe diameter.
4. Header pipe length.

I say go with a good mid length (like Mac Mid) if you are worried about the emissions crap.

I had Mac mids a few years back, they worked nice and I was able to keep emissions equipment.
I later switched to Hooker jet-coated LTs and the difference was like night and day.

And yes, LTs (especially catless) will make the car much louder and slightly smellier(sp?) for the poor bastard behind you LOL

Pacesetters coated LT's are the best bang for the buck IMO. Wish I had got them on long before I did.

i have rk sports which are basically knock-offs of AS&M headers and i love them but i am now doing a true dual setup so im selling the headers if anyone is interested, they are ceramic coated but have been painted for cosmetics and to keep rust off, if i could do true duals with these headers i would, they made so much more low end torque than lt's in my opinion, but yeah if you want to get shorties i would buy something like these 300 shipped, but if you want the lt route get pacesetters they are the best bang for ur buck

Definately go with LT's. I had some Edelbrock TES headers (shorties) with no cat, and a Flowmaster 80 series up until a couple weeks ago. I noticed a huge difference in power and sound when I switched to my LT's, x-pipe, and single chambers. If you're going to do it, do it right the first time. Shorties are a waste of money

IMO, shorties are just a"warm over" the stock exhaust manifold. Been there, and a waste of money.

Eventually, you'll want more power in the future. Get LONG TUBES.
