I wouldent go with anything but AC Delco for a stock car, or MSD/Dynaspark or something like that for heavily modded (or just higher revving) cars.

I am not totally sure on who makes the Optis for Summit though...

I drove to Jegs in Columbus Ohio and got one of there (jegs) brand name opti and the wire harness would not fit in the hole correctly. I took the power feed harness with me when I took there opti back and we tried three different opti's and the plug would not go all the way down in the hole. It was offset or something. We pulled a GM Performance Parts one out and the power plug fit like a glove. On something like that I would not trust anything other than factory GM I was not happy that I had to take the opti back off and make another two hour drive and change it out.. lesson learned on my part steer away from house brands and stay with proven parts

No, you just need to cover up the holes for air/egr and get the codes tuned out.

True, all knock off optis seem to give trouble...

What is the optis? and does it make it hard to start? I have a 94 Firebird whit a 5.7 that you have to crank the **** out of it...if you pump the gas pedle like a old carb. motor it will start and run great. Got 42 lbs of fuel pressure....and thoughts

Optispark, its on the front of the motor (on the timing cover) under the waterpump. Its the LT1 system of distribution, and has the cap/rotor and 2 sensors inside it (opti high/low res signals for timing).

Yes, an optispark going bad can cause you to have to "crank the ****" out of the car at first.... But it still may run seemingly fine after. Eventually it will go totally and cut the car off completely.
