We all know if you put a aftermarket rear in our cars we have to use a different universal joint to mate the driveshaft to the rear end. I have a aftermarket rear AND driveshaft. So, my problem is the drive shaft will not mate up with the transmission without a different universal joint. This is the route I WOULD have taken, but my factory slip yoke did not look too good. All the rubber parts were dried out and cracked every were.

So, I decided to go ahead and purchase a slip yoke that would use the same universal joint as my drive shaft. I called up Moser, and they sent me a Spicer unit that has C3-3-649-2 stamped on it. Here is the problem, the aftermarket yoke is about a 1/4" shorter than my factory one. Is this a problem? If used will it be an issue? It is not much of a difference but a difference none the less.

Sorry for the long read but I just wanted to explain why I did this the way I did as to avoid "why did you do that" questions. Also, if it is deemed to be to short and can't use it, I guess my options are to either get a longer drive shaft or just find another factory yoke that looks better than mine and buy a universal joint with different size caps. I have included a pic to show the difference. Thanks guys.

UPDATE

Just got off the phone with Moser, they said this would not be a problem. Do you guys concur?

What rear end do you have in your car? Im not sure about the 12 bolt but i know that with a 9" the rear usually either has to be moved forward about .5" or use a slightly longer driveshaft because the slip yoke doesn't engage a whole lot of the output shaft. If you've already got this problem and use a shorter yoke it could make it worse.

Do the 12 bolts have a need for a different length shaft. The one I have appears to be the same length as the stock one?

Im not positive, but you SHOULD be good with a 12 bolt.

Update

I installed the driveshaft yesterday with the shorter slip yoke. No issues, and the drivetrain is very tight, no slop.

hey i have a question about that attached image. the old slip yoke....is that a counterweight or like a vibration dampener or something? mine broke in half yesterday while doing u-joints and am unsure of if this is okey or not

I had strange axle and the yoke was oem (10 bolts). It works good.

I wouldn't run it like that, but to answer your question, I believe it is a balancer, but not sure.

You don't need that "collar". It wont hurt anything running without it.
