Default hey new here got a question

Whats up guys. been reading the forum for a while but finally registered.

heres my question.

im lookin to buy a 1997 z28 a4. its white. hard top with the black and red cloth interior. looks stock to me other than a k&n intake. it has 67k miles on it and they want 5,998 for it i believe does that seem like a good deal? it looks like its in really good condition. and i know about the opti problems. i have a friend who can help me with that if it ever becomes a problem. i havent driven it yet, but what should i look out for? and what are other known problems?i really like this car. i was looking for ls1's but they either have over 100k miles on them, or they want too much for them and i could get a gto for the same price (15,500-16,500) but i like this lt1 i found.

one thing to do for sure is roll down window, roll up, roll down, roll up. The guy may not like you doing this and might think it's weird, but these windows motors go out fairly regularly. If the window just stops working at any point, that means that the motor is on it's way out.Look for wear on the drivers side bolster cause they take alot of abuse. Ask him where he keeps the gas gauge at. If he says it's usually around a 1/4 tank, be prepared that the fuel pump may go out, they don't like to be that low.

i rarely see hardtops too. 99.99% of the ones i see are t-tops. and i havent seen that color interior before either. atleast i dont have to worry about t-top seals

Wether its basic or not, that interior color combo is rare, yes the hard tops are few & far between apposed to the TTs, but they are out there, for that low mileage i would buy it, it will give you years of reliable fun IF you take care of it & keep it maintaned, i bought mine with 158K, its a M6, it runs like a new one, but its been taken care of too, that interior is cool, i like it.

I think the HTs are lighter then the TTs, mine is fully loaded & just under 3500lbs without a driver.

I've got the same interior in my Car.. Roll-up Windows, Manual Locks & Seats, Red & Black everything.

My car with the LT1 when I first got it weighed ~3320 lbs. Right now with the 9" in it I would say I'm at ~3300 lbs..I'll weigh it again when I put in the T56.

i think it has power windows and locks because i dont see any handcranks on the door in the one pic. how much of a difference does that make?

Offer him 5500 cash (if you can do cash), simply because money talks

That's very low miles and you'll have it for quite a while.

For the options, check on the door there'll be a sticker with a bunch of 3 character "codes", that's the RPO codes. Snap a picture of them and then go here to look them up. GU2 is 2.73s (bad) and GU5 is 3.23s (good!).

Best RPO site I've come across BTW.
http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/w...e_GM_RPO_codes

And I agree on the T-Tops being a slightly heavier car. I think they weigh about 20lbs/ea, and I'd bet that the steel that they replaced was probably at most 10lb total.

More of a pain in the *** when you have to change one of the motor assemblies..

Would you really not buy a car cause of a bad window motor?

looks like a good car, anyother way to tell if you got a good rear end, is to see if the car came with Z-rated tires from the factory, if it did, you got the 3.23's if not 2.73's. This was the case in my car, i also had the gay 120mph cluster

that car looks real clean. but who knows what the underside looks like. if you can go look under the car. if theres nothing mechanically wrong with the car then its a good deal id have to say. start right away with the mods... >

No, but if the person doesn't know much you can be like, wtf man? why doesn't the window work? It's just as much his job when selling a car as it is yours to be informed on whats going on with it.
