I'm doing a Lloyd Elliott LE1 this fall and was wondering if I will be ok running the stock single roller gm timing chain?

I've been told the stock single roller is weak and upgrading top to the heavy duty or dbl roller would be a better choice being I will be right there during the head/cam swap.

I would just put a stock replacement in there, the LE1 isnt too extreme. I have seen many run more powerful setups with just a new chain/gears.

If your really worried or intend to go a little more crazy, get the upgraded LT4 chain or go to the double roller.

Not worried so much just want to do it right the first time rather then tearing back in if a prob occured. I already have a new chain and sproket so I guess I'm set.

I always recommend to people to get a new stock gm chain for sure and sprockets if the mileage is really up there but for the most the chain is enough. I've been running the stock chain with the 503 and now again with the LE2 setup and its been great. Buddy of mine has been running a new stock chain with his 383 LE1 setup with good luck as well.

Well for starters the stock one is neither weak or a roller. More guys break "extreme duty" sets than stock ones. Have to consider that the stock linkbelt chain was designed with the fairly substantial load of the waterpump in mind and it does a good job of handling that load.

+1. When I did my H/C in 2005, I replaced them with new GM original--timing chain, sprockets(cam, crank, waterpump). They're strong enough.IMO.

The reason I corrected it is because people hear "single roller" and "double roller" and assume the double roller is a lot stronger, which it may be but since the stocker is not a single roller that does not apply.
Actually look at a stock chain, look at how many straps there are at any given point. Now look at the "performane upgrades", roller is about friction reduction, not strength.

I hear "single roller" all the time. In fact, I think Summit used those words if I remember..

Stock replacement will work fine.
Be sure to get one specific for the 94, the 95+ won't fit unless you have a vented opti and 95+ timing cover.

Remember to degree the cam when you install it.
