Default 1998 harness with 2001 PCM with 2003 LS6?

On my garage floor I have:
- engine harness out of a 1998 Camaro LS1
- LS6 engine out of a 2003 Corvette
- PCM out of a 2001 Chevy van (code 12200411)
- HP Tuners Pro with 8 credits
- A bench harness made up following EFILive's tutorial diagram

Now I'm scratching my head about what I need to do to make it all work together. The car is a TVR Cerbera with it's own completely different wiring setup so I'll just be wanting to splice in the circuits I need to make things work.

Questions I've got are:

1. What do I need to do to get a starting config that's right for my engine onto the PCM? From what I read in the HPTuners docs it seems I need to first of all come up with a VIN for an LS6-standard car (where would I get that from?) to reflash the PCM, and then flash a standard LS6 tune to it (download one from holdencrazy.com?).

2. Will the 1998 harness work with the 2001 PCM pinouts? If not can I modify it, or do I really need a 99+ harness?

First time I've tackled anything like this so appreciate any help...

Cheers
Don

98 harness will not work w/ the 01 PCM. You need 99+ sensors & harness.

I see your in NZ, I have a 98 PCM that you can have if you want it, for shipping charges.

PM me if interested.

Thanks Duane - generous of you, but I'd change the harness before I'd change the PCM. Cheers.

OK, I have all the 99+ sensors and injectors with the engine. If I cut out all the circuits I don't need (this is a basic hot rod style conversion so not worried about running aircon, emissions, etc) could I repin just the essential circuits following the pinout diagrams? Getting another harness here isn't that easy or cheap so I'd like to work with what I've got if I can.

not as it sits, but you can re-pin the harness to work with the 01 pcm...as a matter of fact that's what i did.......

Why not add to your reply by explaining what was done, where to get the pins, etc..

since you asked so nicely.......all you have to do is get a pcm pinout diagram from the stickies for a 98 F-Body and an 99-02 F-Body ( I used the 01 version because I deleted the EGR function) and "re-pin" the 98 harness i.e. remove the pin for MAF signal for the 98 pcm connector and reinstall in the corresponding position for the 99+ harness....all the pin positions on the pcm connectors are numbered, so just move them from where there are to where there supposed to go for the corresponding year system...you could remove the wires and number them where they're suppose to go and reinstall later or buy another set of pcm connectors and remove and reinstall as you go....

best bet would be downloading one from HPT's Repository

yes just re-pin it to 01 F-Body specs, the 99+ pcm's have better operating systems than the 98's,to be honest i'm not sure if the new pcm would support the older 98 operating system

Thanks guys, I have the tune now from HPT's repository and will write-flash that which I understand will need 4 credits - 2 to change the vehicle of the PCM and 2 for the tune I'm using.

I'll do the repin route, taking the opportunity to label up the connectors so that I know what's what when I come to splicing in to the original TVR harness (as my wire colors won't match anything standard any more).

the only splicing you should have to do is for constant and switched power...dont splice any engine control circuits....

I've got a dash full of gauges and a fuel system which I guess need to talk to the PCM too though?

The standard tach, speed, water temperature, oil pressure, alternator, fuel level,
Also maybe fuel pressure, Lambda, rev limiter / change up lights. Will also be running a rally tripmeter.

I've no idea how much if any of this can/should go through the PCM though.

none of those circuits will go "thru" the pcm, you can use the tach output signal for your tach (providing it's programmable), oil pressure and water temp signals from the stock harness may/may not work with your guages, you could try, but you will probably have to use the specific sending units for those guages...obviously the wideband would be a stand alone deal..good luck
