how good is a vortech v1 , and how much boost will it make ? building a 408 for it .

Which model? Should be on the metal plate on the blower: "V-1 S" or "V-1 T" or even "V-1 E"...

On the 408, depending on whether you are running an intercooler or not (an IC will cost you a little boost depending on the design), I believe you will get between 7-9# of boost. I sold my S-trim and upgrade to a T-trim on my 383 because I could only get 7.2# max after the big FMIC. Same setup with the T-trim yielded a best of 12.8# to date, and 131 more rwhp.

It will still be a fun project, and you can always upgrade later.
