6 Speed Trans for the 5.3
Think the FWD 6 speed Trans' that GM offers could be fitted up to our cars. Obviously this is totally hypothetical. The G6 had a manual at one time and there is now an auto out there too.
Thoughts?

I didn't know they had a 6 speed FWD tranny, that would be great. What does it look like/what engines is it mounted too?
The G6's are 3.5 and 3.6's aren't they?
EDIT: the torque converters are the same size, but i can't find the over all dimensions of our transmission.

There is a guy on another forum that took the manual tranny from a G6 and is in process of putting it in a older 97-03 GP. I saw the torque rating and it was only 240ft-lbs so its not the strongest thing in the world. Here is the link to his project http://www.gpona.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4271 Its a hellofa lot of work.

The G6's were briefly available with the 6spd manual when the GTP(now GXP) originally had the 3.9. They then switched to the 3.6 and discontinued offering that tranny. I don't know that the tranny would be up for all the added power and torque from the LS4, not to mention it would probably cost you more money than it's worth. Between getting it to bolt up, the custom interior fab work for the shifter, getting the computer to play friendly, etc. I know you said it's only hypothetical, but it's not worth the trouble (if it's even possible) IMO.

Exactly why its hypothetical. I just cannot help to think how awesome this car would be with an extra two gears. And obviously extra awesome if they were manual!
Chevy has a 6 speed auto in the Malibu, it is hooked up to the four banger.

The 6T75 is rated high than out 4T65 but I gues becaue ours is HD plus the othering things they did for the V8s probably make it comparable..either that or GM numbering of capactiy means nothing with these two transmissions. BTW I dont think you can bolt up the 6T75 but the the 6 speed manual would work. You would have to deal with the starter mounting though... All in all I beleive we have a good gear box anyways. Our Torque converter is something to write home about too.
And for the record we have that score protection program because pegleg burns outs are no good...ON ANY DIFFERENTIAL../ Not because the unit is weak.
