Default rpm's with spray?

What rpm's are you turning when spraying? I was at the track last night talking with a local performance shop and they were convinced 7500 rpm was way to high for a built solid roller stroker motor. I just laughed and said well see. Then I started wondering what other LS1/LSX motors were doing. I've heard of people shifting at 10,000rpm's.

I was always told you can take it as high as you bulid it, if its built good high rpms wont be a problem, i think.

About as high as you would take it off the spray.

Cliff,
You only need to spin it as high as it will go while in the power curve. If it starts falling off there is no reason to spin it that high.. But like stated above we have twisted some pretty high as well. 7500 does not sound to unreasonable.

Like dave said its the intake, head and cam choice. ATV has a sheetmetal and it needs rpm. i had a vic jr with a prety good size hydrolic cam in it

252 272 on a 116

So it loved BIG RPM car pulled hard up there. It also lets you run a little more gear to help down low and still have enugh MPH up top.

im on a stock pcm
once i swap the gears i will be shifting back around 7600-8000 depending where the car runs its best.

Hows the high rpm on the standards? Steep gear and 6 speed = alot of wheels spin huh?

for a standard M6, how does 3000-6000 sound? My thinking is on at 3000, and when shifting (somewhere between 5700-5900) it's still on ,but if you overrev it, it cuts the NO2 at least and allows the rev limiter to kick in with less flyby on the limiter. Also once the downshift takes place, you'll end up in the 4500-4800 range, so the NO2 will be right there waiting again.

Vets? Thoughts on this idea?

Still on stock botom end rev limiter set to 6600, saw 7k in a log when it hit the limiter on the jug. I aborted the run and nothing was hurt.

I thought the stock computer was only good to 8000 rpm, or at least that's what I thought since in the software everything only shows to 8000, am I wrong?

I've had mine to 7600 while spraying 300 before. It was actually an accident but nothing was hurt and now I know I can twist it higher than 7200 if I ever "need" to.

Stock PCM here too.

Yeah, i've had it to 7600 as well a little bit of a hairy launch and was a little late on the 1 - 2 shift, I felt the nitrous go off (window off @ 7600), but got it shifted before the 7800 limiter. And that was on a 300 as well.

My cam only six speed car is set to shut off at 7300 on the spray with the rev limiter at 7400. I don't run it that high except for through the traps and maybe in 1st gear. The rest of the time I shift it early.
