Default Larger oil filter

Is there any performance/advantage into using a larger oil filter other than adding an xtra half a quart of oil in the crank case?

It doesn't add any extra oil to the crank case. The oil stays in the filter when the car is shut off.

There's the slight benefit of cooling, as you have more oil in the system, and it's flowing through the lifter longer, pulling off a bit more heat.

However, in the case of the later Z-28s with the LT-1 engine, the oil filter is about 1 inch from the cat converter, so while heat extraction would normally be a plus, in this case, it's minimized.

BTW, which "large" oil filter are you referring to? The "standard" large filter (PF-35) that holds 1 qt., or the 2 quart, "HD truck" filter?

The Napa Gold or Wix tall filters are what I use.

The bigger unit allows for more oil and better filtering.

I just use a K&N filter from a early/mid 90's chevy 5.7 truck. It is at least two inches longer than the stocker.

So, as most of you mentioned, a larger filter has it's added benefit. Thank you, all.
