Western Members - Got another camaro today :)

I just brought home a 1982 camaro z28. I didn't know if the guy knew about the car being a pace car but he said that the car is a 500 special or something. The car is one of 6000 pace cars sold. All he said it needed was a water pump. When he bought the car the engine was recently rebuilt. Since he has owned the car he rebuilt the tranny, carb, swaped the computer, heater and reupholstered the entire interior. It looks like it has a new hypertech distributer, wires, B&M shifter that I saw online for $200 and other little things. I plan to get the pump on the car soon and see if I can get it fired up. Here are some pics.

Does it have the true cowl induction or was that only offered on 1982 Z28's with crossfire injection?

found it in the back of my boss's friend shop. Saved a Camaros' life cuz at first he was talking about junking all the old cars in the back for scrap metal.
Nice find, are you gonna restore it back to original?
I'm gonna get back to as close as original as I can but I'm not sure about the color red. I'd like to paint it blue like I've seen on some 3rd gens but we'll see.

Just get it running for now then just clean up the exterior and make it primer black for the time being. The exterior is straight as hell haven't found a dent yet and the interior is brand new just needs to be vacuumed.
This would be sweeet!!

Yes it would but it would cost way more than I have plus I want to keep it as original as possible and I already have my cammed ls1.

There was an old k10 custom truck a volkswagon van and another old school truck but he sold them all already. Someone was trying to pull the camaro from under me while I was trying to get a trailer so I just used my AAA to pick it up.
He had $7500 worth of three welders plus a plasma cutter that he sold for $1000. I wish I new how to weld I could have bought one of the welders for $100 :(

The car was Red? A Pace car should have been two tone blue, would have red accents on the wheels, blue and silver vinyl interior, and some special interior stuff. Thats kind of cool if its a pcae car...only 6,360 produced.

But at the end of the day its still a turd gen pace car, which I don't think there is a huge calling for, could be wrong though. But with it painted original and keep a full exhaust system on it you could built the engine up pretty nice and make it a little street hustler.

I think I'm gonna just put it back to original. Not trying to make it fast or anything cuz it'll always be slow compared to my 98 z. I just gotta find what everything is stock as in color and well pretty much it. No street hustler here lol.

Really? Maybe its just me but I don't see buying a third gen for anything other than a drag car of some sort, weather rare or not. They don't make a good daily, they don't draw crowds at a car show, people look at them and think red neck mobile, no matter the model or color. But like I said, it might just be me, and it wouldn't take much to make that thing a good street runner, would get it running 11's on motor and throw some spray in it and you could have a good little sleeper.

I have to agree with that. If you have a little bit of money, make that thing a beast. Either a drag car or some kind of street machine. People will say "look at that turd gen... lets race." and you can smash them. If I remember right, those cars were pretty light. Some suspension and performance, and you could have a real killer on your hands.

PLease no louvers...doesnt get more redneck than a third gen with louvers. TT2s look great but the offset is different I think.
I have always thought third gens are sweet. They are about 200 lbs lighter than an LS1 camaro too and have a full cast iron motor, if you put an LS1 in there its got to be around 3000lbs.Id like to pick up a nice black IROC again...

To tell you the truth, I am not sure because I have never looked for parts for a third gen or know what it takes to make them beefy. But first I would start with the suspension. I would call Sam Strano and get an idea from him what you really want. I am thinking something like $1500 for the suspension to start with.

i saw restore it to original. maybe today they are not worth anything, but look at the 2nd gens, they are starting to pick up value. as the cars go to the junk yard, the rarity increases. so restore it while its cheap, and then store it for 5-10 years. it will be worth something, trust me.
its an 82, so its 26 years old. i think once it hits 30 its a classic, right?

I'd get a hold of a cheap SBC, 383 preferred. Get a decent intake and carb for it, exhaust. Grab a TH-350/400, with a converter. Full suspension. I don't know what rear is in it but if it will hold up that should put you into the 11's without too much fuss if the motor can make in the 300ish range. Of course a sticky tire out back.

TPIS made it better when they came out with the mini ram...which looks like an LT1 manifold but still isnt as easy and cheap and a carb setup. TPI Makes all torque and no hp...thats whay the 86 TPI made 190hp and 285ft lbs torque.

Its because of the way the air flows and the fuel atomizes, but it gets down into a lot of physics and becomes hard to explain if your not familiar with it.

It may be cheaper, but it also isn't legal. Yet again the mini ram isn't legal in cali either. In cali the only legal aftermarket options are the accel super ram and the edelbrock or slp high flow tpi setups.

That car looks clean as hell! Too bad my sister wants it and I'll probably give it to her once she's old enough to drive in 2 years. I guess better than her wanting to have my 98z which she already wants. 98z not gonna happen. Any performance mods?
