is there a special tool to remove the crank pulley? i just keep braking the craftsman universal crank puller, crank pulley is very hard to remove

What year car is it? I think 96-97 cars can use a different puller due to its hub, but I'll let someone else chime in to verify.

its a 93 wen i bought the car it came wit a march underdrive pulley

The PULLEY is held to the HUB by 3 bolts. Remove the bolts, the pulley can be taken off, however it might be stubborn, since it's probably been in place for a long time.

The hub is a different story, as there is only a small bolt hole in its center, and not the large opening like a regular SB Chevy. You need to screw in a 5-6" length of threaded rod through the hub, and into the crank. Then, put a hex nut and a couple of large flat washers on the rod. Next, place either a round, steering wheel type puller, or a 3 eared puller over the threaded rod, put 3 screws through the puller, and into the 3 ears of the hub. Turn the hex nut on the threaded shaft, to draw the puller forward, removing the hub.

Yes, it's most dfinitely a bit of a PITA.

if the hub is the harmonica balancer, my hub is on the outside of the pulley, on my car the pulley is pressed on to the crank then the hub bolts right to the pulley, if i unbolt the hub is comes off with no problem, but its the underdrive pulley i cnt get off! the puller bolts right to the pulley but when i turn the puller i turn i to hard and it just cracks and the pulley will only come off a lil just barely enough to get off my opti and put it back on!

I just uploaded a video on a bullet proof puller you can make for under $15 and I guarantee once you lock it onto the hub you will have it off in under 5 minutes. The video will explain exactly what is needed, how to assemble it and then how it works. Don't worry about the popping noise as you pull it off it sounds like it's breaking something but it's just the hub press so tight that as it slides it pops like that. I tried to find a GOOD picture of the March pulley, to understand the OP's question. Neither Jeg's or Summit's had any pictures, and March's website picture wasn't all that clear, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

but...are you maybe pulling it off til it hits the bolt in the middle? You need to back that bolt out further as the hub comes off.

Most people don't modify their existing pullers. 99% of the kits I have seen don't include the correct bolts and folks never know which kit to get. This documentary is a simple writeup on exactly what you need end of story. It leaves no questions and is straight forward. I see atleast a thread a week on this topic so here is the everlasting answer.

You have a point though, to people have been working on cars for an extended period of time yes this may be common knowledge but to a beginner this is very valuable information IMHO.
