Advanced Induction has several customers out there making 500+ at the wheels through LT1 heads and intakes, few of them even automatic transmissions. Bench racers will tell you that you need to use more expensive and often less effective parts though.

Two of them are 383s and make enough torque that with great suspension are tough to launch, like putting lead in the nose of a car to keep it down on those 9 second NA runs.

I have seen a 0.60 over LT4 run 9.88. It had a stock throttle body, ported heads and intake, and .525 lift cam. That is far from a maxed out LT4. I really don't think that we have seen what these motors can do yet. Especially when there are non-stroked LT1's in the 9.5's.The biggest problem with this section of the forum is that it tends to dumb down the LT1 by setting a very low level of expectations.

Sure you can, question is how long will it run? The biggest money you spend is for durablity.

Also budget and 500 hp smallblock are a contradiction in terms.

what he is saying is that he will one day put a 300-400 shot on the motor but what he is asking is how much power is expected with a $4000 budget. put half ur budget in your heads!!!!

Well for starters, $300 is going to be gone right off the bat for LTs to replace those mids heh. Then another $300~ for a tune. So now you're already down to $3400. With all the essentials you'll need for that motor, to be reliable and handle that size of spray you want, I think you're looking at 400~hp. If you go with an LE2 setup, that's $1650 for the heads and cam, which excludes intake work.

Also keep in mind you're GOING to snap your rear end :\

Header length hurts torque more than HP, low end torque to be specific.

You can make 500 hp with shorties MANY have done it.

With a $4000 budget its gonna be hard. Freshen the stock bottom end, rings, rods, mains, oil pump.

Ai or LE top end package and a tune will get ya close, you can make 450 with a good tune that way. But ya gotta have all the supporting stuff.
