THE CAR
2002 Z28 M6 - 400/367 SAE dynojet - LS6 heads, 224/228 581/588 113LSA cam, SLP lid and CAI, ported TB, Pacesetter LTs and ORY, Magnaflow catback, Moser 12-bolt with 4.10s, MN12 transmission, Pro 5.0 shifter, 3.5" aluminum driveshaft, adjustable torque arm and panhard bar, LCAs, SFCs, SLP line lock.

I run 17" SS wheels with Nittos on the street and stock 16" wheels with MT ET Streets at the track.

BACKGROUND
The only time I've been to the track with the current setup was back in the spring in similar weather at the same track, only there was a stronger headwind. I ran 12.0s and 12.1s all day at 115 mph, then cracked one 11.99 @ 116.01 with a 1.69 60', so I was happy but knew the car had more in it. The only change I made between then and now is that I bumped the limiter up from 6700 to 7000 and set the shift light to 6500 instead of 6400, but I hold it out a little bit longer now (probably shifting around 6700-6800).

YESTERDAY
Went up for a Jannetty Racing track rental day at Lebanon Valley again and knew it was gonna be a good day considering the high temps were mid-60s, sunny, and there was less of a wind than last time. My goal was to hit an 11.8 and trap 117, but I really just wanted some consistent 11-second runs since that's what the car should be doing.

I was third in line and was itching to get started, so I went out and on my first run, nailed an 11.996 @ 117.45 with a 1.722 60' spinning. The 11.996 exactly tied my best ET ever and the 117.45 is my best mph to date, so yeah, it was gonna be a good day. I gave it a rest and then went out in spurts of two runs at a time, giving the car a break after every two. I clicked off a bunch of PBs in a row, solid 11.9s all day, and all at 116-117 mph. I hit a new best 60' of 1.67 (and a few other 1.6s) and on my fourth run nailed a new best ET of 11.89, so I was thrilled with how the day went for me.

After the 11.89, things went downhill as my linelock stopped holding and I started spinning like a madman, but I was very happy because before that I hit new bests in pretty much every spot and hit my goals for the day. Below are a couple of my runs where I got new PBs.

Another interesting thing to note is that I was spinning a bit all day, even on the good 60' runs. I could feel it spinning quite a bit on every run (even earlier in the day before things got worse), but just staying in it seemed to work well. Next time I'll play around a little more with the tire pressure (ran about 12 pounds hot) and see if I can shave a little more off. I was launching between 4500 and 5000 depending on the run and would have no problem launching higher if it would hook up, but my buddy was at the line with me and confirmed that I was spinning quite a bit.

Good job, Joe! I guess it's about time for me to man up and throw the bottle on my car, lol.

That's the A4 vs M6 difference. The A4s don't need nearly as much power to cut the same ETs 99% of the time. If your car was trapping the same as mine, you'd be low 11s without issue, maybe better.

Awesome Job Joe. I was on a lil vacation. But that car is a CONSISTANT 11 second car. I'm working on catching you, it isnt out of the question. I think a lil suspension work, MC work, and GTO trans swap will put me closer. Also a lil more weight out.

I don't doubt it can get there with the right work. I'll have to start thinking about manning up to a better H/C setup soon if I want to keep out of reach. :engarde:

Let me know if you ever want to buy my tranny if you're seriously considering the MN12. It's for sale for the right price and you know it's been taken care of for the few thousand miles I've had it.

Not to bust your balls, but with all the changes you just stated you might as well have said, "I'm working on catching you, it isn't out of the question. I think a blower or 100 shot of nitrous will do the trick."

The question is who is gonna man up on a short block..... :secret2:

We will see, just practicing is a major thing for me

For the next few years, it wont be me making any huge waves. :(

Yeah, I think practicing is needed by all three of us, as none of us had a great ET for the mph we put down. As for the short block...I'm just hoping it's something that I can do when I'm ready and not out of necessity because I blew it up, lol. Then the question will be which short block combo...so many out there :)

Actually for me, it was spot on, BUT I should be putting more MPH up, should be in the 115 range, BUT then again on a Bias ply the mph cannot be directly correlated to a DR.

The sad truth is you can do a big cube short block and most people wouldnt know..... :barf:

Seems like the stick cars with great drivers are capable of 12.0-12.1 at 113 mph and 11.6-11.7 at 117mph. Obviously I wouldn't catagorize any of us as great drivers, but that's what the practice is for

A car that shifts properly would still help me out with that (damn I wish I could powershift this thing). I'm also trying to find out why I can't get any better than a 1.67 out of these ET Streets. They spin even after a massive 2nd gear burnout quick slipping it at 4500-5000, which doesn't make a ton of sense. Perhaps my suspension setup is off.

Probably, or maybe you can launch higher then me, our dyno graphs are pretty close and I dont think 10 ft pounds of tq is making that much of a diff. Mine dead hooked everytime.

I dont know, did Chef line you up?? Maybe your not in the groove and thats what makes the difference.

Suspension might help quite a bit. I know Jay and Chef are big on the shocks, so I'm betting that shocks and some lightweight front end suspension parts will help big time.

That's what I'm thinking. Too bad shocks are so expensive.

Aaron, you were running on all out slicks on a 15" wheel with a little bit less power and more weight in the car, not to mention what I believe to be the biggest factor: the SHORT first gear in my car, which KILLED my traction when I put this trans in. I was running on ET Streets (kind of slicks) on a 16" wheel with a bit less weight in the car. It just wouldn't hook fully. They did alright, but not what I was hoping for in terms of launching. I think suspension is what I need to look at. Also, if I had the money for decent 15" wheels and slicks, I'd go that route next.

I'm still thinking about getting rid of this transmission since I rarely get to the track and pretty much have zero traction with it anywhere.

yup get a set of shocks and I will help you dial that car in at a rental, it will make a world of difference:D
