Default Oil in my coolant reservior!!!!!!!!

So today I went out to my car at about 12:30PM, I was going to meet MonteSS8707 to hang out and talk about cars. I opened to hood to look under there and check the Oil level, etc. I check the oil and I seemed really low. I didn't have any leaks on the ground or anything...then I looked at my coolant reservior and saw something dark and scary in the bottom of it. I cyphoned some of it out and sure enough it was motor oil.

My guess is that it could be a head gasket...which it is terrible if i need a new one @ 38,675 miles. I swear I have a love/hate relationship with my car.

On the upside, while looking over the underside of my car, I found a wet hose, which I think is the a transmission coolant line. Since I have my GM certified warrantly until 39,000 miles the transmission hose should be covered, as well as the head gasket or whatever caused oil to go into my coolant!

Yup... Blown head gasket. Do a compression test and a leak down test.

Only thing it can possibly be is a head-gasket, sux. Thank goodness it was a certified car, and with it being certified you also have a 100K mile power-train warranty as well, which if Im not mistaken covers head-gaskets.

dex cool does leave a slimmy mess in the overflow. It's the silicone layer on the inside of the hoses see this all the time. I would take out the overflow and clean it top off the oil and see if it happens again. also way to stay positive guys

07whiteSS, You are correct. That is what the dealer told me, so I got a flush and all is good.

Hey there all we can do on the internet is take his word for it. If he says its oil, its oil! That being said, what is your advice? A blown head gasket?! That's my advise. I know that the coolant doesn't have the same sealing properties as traditional coolant, and just because it says it might last 100K under normal driving conditions, doesn't mean it will. I change mine every 30K miles as well as my trans fluid and filter.

they don't say it might last 100k it will and changing it every 30k is as silly as "only thing it could be is head gasket" people come here for help and advice I only talk when I know what I am talking about.

I agree i'm not touching my coolant for at least 100k or 5 years which ever hits first. I do have to add about 2/3 cups of coolant a year tho. I'm guessing due to the overflow tank the water in the coolant evaperates. I wonder in the long run if this effects the ratio of the coolant ? Eitherway by the time i hit 100k i plan to have the challenger!

As for blown headgasket you would notice it long before there was sludge in your res. You would have caotic temp gauge along with super heated gases trying to escape the cooling system.

I have test driven both the R/T and the SE Challenger's and there just isn't much there. It is a 5.7L HEMI which is nice, it is RWD which is great....But the overall quality of the car is just not worth 30K+.

I would love a Challenger, but when you compare them to a GTO or Camaro's the bang for the buck goes out the window. 30K+ is just for the name and the looks i guess, I would get a Challenger if i could find a good used none abused car.

Just my thoughts.....

Still looks cool as hell, I have a picture of the White R/T I drove as the wallpaper on my phone, < I am going to frisco.....so you can call me Kowalski >
