Default '98 Fuel pump replacement panel cutout ... DONE!

So I did mine over the weekend and took a couple pics of the panel cutout. I know this has been gone over here many times over so I did a search using various search terms and it was actually quite hard to find a thread with pics directly relating to a install on a '98 and earlier F-body. Hence, the reason for another fuel pump panel cutout thread with most of the keywords as subject so future searches will give a bit more positive results ... hope this helps!

I was sick over the weekend so even though I started on Friday night, I got done Sunday evening ... Didn't take pics of the pump swap (which is pretty straightforward and instructions come with the Racetronix kit anyways, but I did take pics of the panel cutout and the cover plate.

Once again, this is for a '98 and earlier ... for '99 and above, move the hole location to the trailing edge of the panel (and you don't need to make the hole as long ... maybe just 75% of length).

Panel is 1/2" larger than hole all around

Panel with bead of silicone to seal off fumes

Panel placed and ready to be rivetted

The job is DONE!

Looks very nice, I got fed up and finally did this to my 98 as well, the rivets give it a clean look, although i wouldnt want to deal with the rivets when i try getting back into it.

yeah, I may replace the rivets with button heads should I ever have to get back into it. I didn't have any short self tapping screws at home; the ones I had would've gone through the tank! .... lol

Looks great. Definitely the route I'm gonna go when I replace my fuel pump here shortly.

Looks good, I would of put less rivets on it in case I had to get back into it.

Well they're only 1/8" aluminum rivets, so they pop off pretty easy with a grinder ... either way if I did have to get back into it, I'll replace them with screws

If you look at the pics you'll see that the cut was made leaving a half inch of area around the perimeter from the front, sides and from where that groove starts towards the rear; this is so that I have enough area to use the rivets. Just make sure you only let the wheel go barely under the sheet metal when using a cutoff wheel to be safe.

I got it from work, I'm sure you could find some at the local hardware store or industrial material supply companies too. Easiest place is McMaster
