which gears are best for highway racing/speed?

which gears are best for highway racing/speed? i'm not really too concerned w/ 1/4 mile time.. i enjoy good top end more.. if i go w/ 4.10's will it make 4th gear weaker.. and what will each gear top out at.. i usually wont go over 120
also for daily driving.. i've heard 4.10's will sit at 2k rpm in 6th gear going 80 which isn't bad i think

Id say 4.10's are good but also look at 3.73's they work well with 6 speeds too.If your going to get gears and you have a 6 speed I say go with 4.10's they will wake your car up a lot.What mods do you plan on doing?I say go with 4.10's if your planning on getting gears.

Re: which gears are best for highway racing/speed? lol.. yeah i plan on gears.. heh.. other then that nothing real serious just headers, ls6 intake, lil bit of tuning and i think that'll be fast enough for me

Re: which gears are best for highway racing/speed? If you are not concerned with the 1/4 mile stay away from 4.10's. 4.10's are for low end torque, and great for the 1/4 mile. If you're thinkin' about racing on the highway, say 100+mph, then just leave it stock. I've quickly run 150+mph on my stock rearend, just my opinion

The gear ratios in your T56 tranny are as follows...
1st - 2.66
2nd - 1.78
3rd - 1.30
4th - 1.00
5th - .74
6th - .50
I'll assume a rev limiter of 6250 and a tire height of 25.66. From this we see that our top speeds by gear for a 4.10 ring and pinion are...
1st-43
2nd-65
3rd-89
4th-116
5th-157
6th-232
BTW, at 80 MPH in 6th gear, you'll be turning 2147 MPH.
If you want me to figure all of this for 3.73 gears, lemme know.

I would like to know the ratios on 3.73 actually.
Of course, multiplying by 1.1 will get you really close.
