Basically because nobody is probably going to read the article they took a 5.3 litre truck engine from the yard and swapped in a Comp thumper cam and it made a monster gain they talk a lot about how the heads on that 5.3 flow better than lots of aftermarket ls1 heads i just want to know how a cam can create such a huge gain it sounds way too easy

That cam is hairy even buy my standards. Between test 1 & 2 (cam only) it lost TQ till 3000 rpm, 37 @ 2200 & 36 @ 2400. That would really feel like a dog in town. Only gained 32 hp @ 5000 rpm. I’m a big fan of the 224 cams and if you want it to sound nasty go with a 110 lsa, but remember that back manifold is going to take a lot of bite out of it. If your thinking of a cam swap this is a must read https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/327734-cam-guide.html
