Etched windows??

Etched windows?? I have got my car booked in for window tinting soon, and got a couple of (proberly dumb) questions.
The front windows have some etching above the locks, can this be removed somehow??
I can go as dark as I like for the rear window, but how dark is practical for nightime driving? (I'd like to be able to see if it's the cops before the blue lights lets me know
).

My guess is, removing etching is not possable, and how dark to go is subjective.

Don't know about the etching. I doubt it can be taken out.
I have 5% tint on all the windows in my car, including the back hatch. It's dark, but I like it. I don't have problems seeing at night.
