Default Went back to the track, potential for 12's?

We went back to the track for the first time in 2 months this weekend. This was also the first time i went since the header install. I wasnt gonna run my car because theres a few things that need to get worked out with it but i did anyways just to see what it would do.

This is all with no tune, bald sumitomos, and on 87 octane (thats all we have in NE AL for now.)

Before headers:
8.93 @ 80.6
13.67 @ 103

New times:
8.82 @ 83.86
13.42 @ 106.93

I need opinions on trap speed, ive been told that 103 is low, but it went up almost 4 mph with the headers. Is it about right now, or is it still low? And am i doing good considering the things holding me back?

Until a tune gets in there, your prob running lean and your using your lower spark tables, since the gas doesnt have the octane to resist detonation, All you can do is add some race gas and mix it. It will prob make a weird octane but it will better then what you have.

Dunno what the 60 foot is but basically until you get a bias ply on there, your not going to run a killer time, but then again, if you run a good enough 60 your rear will prob blow. Its a dicey situation.

I havent cut a 60' faster than a 2.1 yet.

Do you think octane booster will help? I dont know when were getting premium again.

No, I mean IF you know how to mix gas, you can get the proper ratio. Frankly until the gas is avalible you cant really expect to gain. Honestly if you can get some hands on good fuel, run the tank LOW, reset the PCM and run the next few tanks full on the premium so the car is on its higher spark advance table.

I wouldn't say that your times are terrible but do seem a little bit low. I never had a before headers run, but the last time I was at the track I was running consistant 8.5's between 85-86mph. It was around 85-90 with high humidity and street tires. But there are alot of factors that affect times

60s are killing you. Get that down, and the ET will drop.

im also in the al town is called fort payne.
the larger truck stops in the gadsden area have 93.the rainbow city/aniston truck stop right of the 59 exit had it this sunday when i was up at steele.
i normaly get chevron brand gas but they havent got back to normal yet but the cowboy truck stop is back to normal so try the truck stops.
you should be running faster for the mods you have. i have just a few more mods than you with nittos dr's and i ran 12.8's@107 in 80f heat with a full tank of gas.

i agree with the 60'. Tires were bald and that track isnt known for hooking anyways. I still havent launched it good yet, im still practicing that.

EDIT: I think my clutch is getting ready to kick the bucket too. Been feeling weird lately. Time for the LS7 setup.

Thanks for the tip. We finally got 93 here in Oxford.

Do you know of a good tuner around here?

Is your car still not tuned for the headers?? There are a few guys around that could tune it for you. Gomer tuned mine and picked up 10hp and 2mpg with the mods in my sig.

Don't listen to BlackScreamin....you don't need a bias ply with that kind of power. Get a set of ET Street radials or even some Nittos (they'll last longer and are still good for 1.6-1.7 60's with enough power). You don't want to be driving around on the street with bias plies unless you're doing a TON of racing. Nittos, a tune, and some 93 octane and you'll hit 12s once you get the launch down for sure.

Almost anyone who is anyone runs a drag radial for regular street use, Very rare I see a modded Fbody making some more hp over stock running on a stock style tire. Thats just asking for a accident.

You def. do not want to be rolling on bald tires but when you want to run fast, and if your making the power, there is one only way to roll.

If the car makes 360 hp or less and if you have some suspension mods and a stock gear ratio a Drag radial will hook w/ ease. Set up to a cam and its a whole different power level.

I can get into Overall gear ratio math and relate it to the foot pounds of torque your making and its pretty sick, but you need to spend the time and make sure the car can handle what you have.

No not yet. A guy i know with a GTO said he has a good tuner. IDK who it is tho. Ive heard of Gomer before so i might look in to that. Are you going to Steele again before they close?

And ill prolly have some Nitto DRs next season.

I'm hoping to. I'm wanting to go when the temp is around 55-60 degrees. I'm thinking I can get in the 12's in those conditions. I'm gonna try to get another mod or two over the next week or so too to help in my quest! Let me know when you're going back and I'll try to make it.
