500+hp Reachable With 408/l92 Combo
I currently in the process of building a 408 stroker with a set of P/P L92 heads.
408 Iron Block
L92 Heads P/P
Callies Compstar Rods
Callies Stroker Crank
J/E Pistons
200 shot
Camshaft Custom Cut By Comp Cams I don't have Cam Card
TSP 1 7/8 Long Tubes
T56 Spec Stage 5
Pro 5.0
9in 4.30
All supporting Mods such as fuel and bolt on's are include
I was wonder if some members on LS1 Tech could help me out and see what intake I need to use and if anyone on the board is making 500 to 550 RWHP with this combo? I know it would be nice to have a set of AFR 225's on top of the 408 but fund's are limited. If the combo I have is not going to see that or close I could use some "HELP" to find my way to a possible 500+ RWHP build.
Thanks

why the hell cant he make 500+rwhp through a 6 speed and 408?
Im sure he can with just a 402 and that setup, no? as long as he ha the proper intake manifold and his l92 heads are PNP and depending on what cam and CR.. very reachable id say..

I was thinking the same thing but I have not seen anyone making over 500 but I have no doubt in my mind that this is reachable with this combo. Anyone have a link to a similar build that is making his power?

Well, considering I am making the numbers in my sig on stock L92's and a stock LS3 intake mani on 376ci, I don't see how a 408 wouldn't eclipse the 500rwhp mark.

Gregg it's also a GTO which is signifigantly heavier than an Fbody. And he was on the notoriously not so sticky Nitto DR's. Since I don't deal much with GTO''s either I am not sure if there are any after market ring and pinion sets available for it. But some stickier meats and a much better launch should get him into the 11's.
For example a typical 3rd gen can weigh anywhere from 2900 to 3500 depending on options/accessories. The Base GTO (which they all pretty much came loaded save for a few comforts) started at 3750. If you put that same 457 whp drivetrane in a 3000 pound Berlinetta and you're running deep into the 11's even with minor traction difficulties. It's called Horse power to weight ratio. And this is why you will be looking at 3rd gen taillights when we race all Motor.
I'm sorry guys I didn't mean to thread jack this so I'll throw in my opinion on this. YES you can definately get 500+ WHP out of a L92 headed 408. It's all in the Cam and intake at that point. The More air you can get into and out of an engine the more power you make. Now the Limiting factor is gonna be how aggressive you want the cam to be If this is an all out race car Go for broke. but if it's your Daily that you are just planning on racing go a little less aggressive shoot for 450-475 whp and spray the rest so it will be a little more user friendly.

My 402ci w/ported l92's stock l76,m6 car got 517hp 468tq,12 bolt w/4.11's on a stang dyno. I run 10.8@128mph in a 3,700lbs ws.6. I switched to a new cam from LG Motorsports g6x3 and gained more. I will re-dyno with this can in about two weeks.

for now a ported l76 will be all you can run, unless you want to go single plane gmpp or a custom sheetmetal intake. as far and best bang for the busk...a single plane with a carb style intake will gain you the most power for the money, but its a radical setup and most people dont want to go that route. i went sheetmetal!
