broken rears with Mcleod clutches? i have a 9" and am not worried about this but i broke the Eaton in my old 12 bolt with the solid hub and was wondering how many have broken the 10 bolt with the MCleod street twin? that is one beefy grabby bitch *** clutch, i like it but DAMn feels like im being punched in the nuts when i speed shift since i got the locker

just wondering how many did it after swapping...i know plenty with 10 bolts that last with stock and other sprung hub clutches. but no one else besides me has been willing to shell out the $ for a street twin

Since the stock clutch will break the 10 bolt most probably replace the rear before stepping up to a pricey Mcleod twin.
You do make a very valid point though. The previous owner of my car ran 12.01 at 117 on mt et streets with a spec 3, 4.11 12 bolt and stock suspension and driveshaft. The spec crapped out so I went with the street twin and also did some rear suspension. Next time I went to the track, on 275 nitto dr's, I snapped the stock ds the first time I dumped the clutch and that was only at about 3k rpm (wasn't expecting to hook).
The street twin will definately find the weak point of your drivetrain. Hearing that you broke your 12 bolt kinda makes me worry about mine. How much power do you make? I'm only putting down about 390/375.

Yes I broke my 10-bolt on the 4th pass with street tires. I had went down to 15 psi to try and hook better and pop. Spider gears and the cross pin exploded. So now I have a 9-inch, 35 spline, spool, and strange driveshaft. Bad news is I just pulled the drive shaft because of a vibration and it would not go in to trans any farther to get it out of rear yoke had to pound it in. I got it out and the splines on the spicer yoke are twisted almost a full spline. This is after about 40 passes nothing better than a 1.72 60'. I have to go down to like 11 to 12 psi in my bfg 325/50/15 dr to get that. Leave at like 5500 if i leave any lower it bogs and slows down. this clutch hits the tires hard and everything else. Also driveshaft is 1/2 to 1 inch to short thats probably why the splines twisted only went on like 2.5 inchs. I also have the tail housing off the trans now to change the bushing and those splines look good.
