Slowly continuing on with my 07 5.3 swap into my 84 SWB. Entering the home stretch now... Need some help with gauge selection. I am wanting to go all Auto Meter gauges in place of stock. I want to keep the stock bezel and simply add the Auto Meters. What size gauge will fit the stock instrument panel? Is it the 3 3/8" gauges for tach & speedo and the 2 1/16" for fuel, oil, temp, etc.? Anyone have any install pics on this swap?

Also I need the water temp (12mm to 1/8" npt i think) and to either drill & tap the oil pressure port over the oil filter or buy the S&P piece. Problem is S&P is so damned expensive. Approx $20 for the temp sender adapter & $35 for the oil press adapter already tapped. Anyone know where else I can find these adapters? How hard is it to drill & tap the stock oil press piece? Anyone know of a link & article of this procedure?

Drilling and taping the oil pan cover (the technical term for it) is pretty easy. Just need a 1/8" NPT tap and matching bit. I just did this and mounted a T with oil pressure and temp. Might want to pick up a new gasket for it as well. The adapter for the passenger side head is recommended.

I have no clue on your size questions, but I got a dial caliper it made stuff like this a lot easier. Then you can just accurately measure it yourself. Probably my most used tool other than the ratchet.

I just drilled and tap'd for both senders. I drilled/tap the passenger side head for the water temp to 1/4" NPT. For the Oil pressure sender, I drilled/tap'd for 1/8" NPT for the Oil Pan Cover (Thanks Stealth, I always just called it the bypass cover.).

Cost to install or mod for the senders ?.. I had a drill and the correct size drill bit, I had the tap.. Total cost.. priceless.. NOTHING...

Maybe someone that has done the dash and gauges for your year will ping in.. else just go and measure as Stealth said !..

So are you just drilling & tapping the "oil pan cover" on the top of the piece? Does it matter exactly where you drill the hole for the sender? Any pics of the fitting installed?

For the water temp sender you need Autometer part number 2277. I heard of people grinding down and re-threading the NPT fitting included to be metric. I just bought the adapter though. It was like $10.

Yes, Here is a really Bad picture (but it is to late to take a new one, as it has been running for almost two years..).. but you should get the idea.. just run down to the local hardware store and get some 1/8" NPT elbow and fittings.. I juse one 45 degree elbow and a 1" extension so that it would clear the exhaust and keep the sender away from the heated header and pipe.

Just don't run the tap in too deep, as you want to make sure the fitting is tight, else you can bottom out the threaded fitting without it sealing and it will leak.

Wow. The electric sender will go on there by itself, right? You just put the 45* to get it away from the exhuast?

Loweredd.. yes.... or if your not using the stock oil sender.. The 99+ PCM doesn't use it, it is only for the Gauge, I replaced it with the Chevelle Sender for the Idiot light. So I have both a Idiot light on the top and the Pressure gauge sender on the plate.

I was going to run turbo feed from the stock sender location, and tap the bottom oil pan cover for the electric sending unit. I dont have to worry about exhuast running down the drivers' side, so I was going to go there.

Advance Auto has a conversion adapter pack that has an 16mm to 1/8" adapter in it so you can remove the stock oil pressure sender and run an aftermarket guage from the stock location if you dont want to drill the oil pan adapter, i'll dig up the part number if your interested.
