Default 2009 G8 GT vs 2008 Volvo S80

I've run this car before with my 1994 Z28. The car is a V8 rated 303 hp and has AWD. For the runs with my Z28 the Volvo would jump out a bit from a dig and then no one would really pull until up top where the Volvo would slowly creep away. I did have a passenger and he was alone, but the Volvo was definitely faster.

After getting the G8 we knew we had to line them up, so today I got the call. We met up and were able to get 3 decent runs in.

First run was from a dig. Count of three and we were off. He jumped out about 1/2 a car on me. I slowly pulled back and by 100 mph I was about 1.5 cars in front.

Second run was from a 50 mph roll. We agreed to go on three honks and just punch it, letting the cars downshift normally. Three honks and we hit it, I started pulling right off the bat and was a solid 2.5-3 cars ahead by 100-110 mph.

Third run was from a dig again. Three honks and we both hit it. This time the launch was about even (after the race he said his car didn't launch as hard as the first run for some reason). I started pulling ahead and by the end of the marked 1/4 mile I was over 2 cars in front.

Good races. Even though the win wasn't unexpected it was good to avenge my previous loss to the car!

Fun stuff!

Nice runs and way to avenge the death! Those Volvos are rated 311 hp and 325 tq, just so you know.

They are VERY nice cars to drive and definitely have some get up and go, a lot more than you'd expect from a 4-door Luxury Volvo anyways. It would be tough choosing between the two if I had to pick. Up here in New England, the AWD would be very nice to have in the winter, but the G8 GT is clearly a much quicker car, especially up top. Interior-wise I gotta go with the Volvo, as well, though, but that's what you get for an extra $20,000.

That's true, I had thought about that. But then I remembered I have my LS1 in the garage...

i def wouldnt mind owning the volvo s80. it looks REALLY clean and for a volvo is dam fast! volvo stepping up their hp and tq now... who wouldnt wanna buy a family car that has 300+ hp and if you crash you know your safe! haha. but it comes with a lot of new features but also is a little to much $$$. but im sure it will go down soon.

Yeah, the 2008 S80 V8 AWD was $50,000 +/- depending on your options. I would definitely daily drive one though. Most comfortable car I've ever driven.

Tell you what, before racing one with my LT1 I would have put money down that I could beat any Volvo on foot. Not thinking that way anymore, lol. The time has come when LT1's are just average performing cars in stock form.
