Default Made my NHRA license runs, best 9.21 at 153.96mph plus turbo thermal tests.

Was a good day.

I've wanted to do some thermal tests on the new Speed Inc TT set-up plus make my NHRA license runs...so it was time to get busy.

1. Idle test for 25 minutes, idle only (while I washed the car). Coolant temp slowly went to 191F and held solid. Trans temp stayed around 150F. 70F outside. Let the car totally cool off before going to the track.

2. I only had 90 minutes to make 6 passes so it was time to check the radiator recovery time under load. I made the first four passes without stopping the car except to burn out and stage, make the run and drive staight back to the burnout box....about 10 minutes to make 4 passes.

Run 1 coolant started at 170F ended at 177F and went to 184F by the time I made it back to the line. Trans was 150F 1/8th mile pass.

Run 2 coolant was 184F ended at 191F and dropped back to 187F at the line. Trans was 166F. 1/8th mile pass.

Run 3 coolant was 187 ended at 194 and did not drop...getting heat soaked now. Trans was 185F. 1000ft pass.

Run 4 coolant was 196 ended at 204F and the trans was at 205F. 1000ft pass Time to park it and cool it off....coolant dropped under 200 back to the pits.

Put a fan on the car and let it sit for 30 minutes before the final two runs in the links below.

17psi boost, 3950ish weight, sucky 1.55 sixties, great DA for Bristol ~ 2700ft.

Very nice! Have you tried a higher launch rpm yet? Seems like it could take a good bit more off the line.

Congrats Tom, are you running an electric water pump? And you are A/A right?

Thanks everybody! Trying to get those runs made in 90 minutes was a little stressful.....I'm glad that's over.

Larry, I might get one more chance this year ......will keep upping the boost until the radials won't take any more.

428 cubes.

Jim, it definitely needs more hit at the line. 3750 and 4000 = the same 1.54 sixty. The 9.2 runs left at 6.4 psi and 6.2 psi at 3750rpm on the step. A 4000 step = 7.4ish psi and the same sixty....odd...but that's the way it is. So I'm down to two things to try:

1. Much more aggressive ramp rate. ( I do know what 16psi at 4000rpm looks like I just have to find the magic ramp rate for the radials)

2. 0.63 AR turbines.

The TC76's are now up 8mph over the GT35R's and are pushing 100 more pounds of weight, but the GT35's are still my favorite "all around" street turbo...they hit like a sledge hammer at 3000rpm and 1.32 sixties.

PSJ, air to air, factory h2o pump, factory fans, custom radiator shroud by me, 160 stat, AC heat exchanger still in front of the radiator, BeCool radiator with the built in trans cooler as the only trans cooler so far. AC still works

Kevin, I had to pick the beach or divorce....beach it is.

9.21 run beginning AIT = 87.4F ending = 137.6F

9.23 run beginning AIT = 96.8F ending = 150.0F

If I can figure out a lazy man's air to water over the winter...I'll change..if not I might try the NOS spray bar and hit it with CO2 in the pits (no bottle in the car...it's heavy enough now) and try to freeze the IC before a run.

heh, the beach is there 365 days a year I'm not going either but if you were going I'd make the trip to check out your car - you just saved me 500.00 lol.

Thats not a bad IAT really, I go from 95-160 on a 75 degree day 1/4 mile. Dont bother with the Co2 or N20 on the intercooler before making a pass, unless you spray it the first 1/8 mile it wont help a whole bunch. Tried it this summer, went through a lot of Co2, wasnt worth the effort. I'm trying to avoid the A2W and ice thing myself..

Hey, I appreciate the heads up on the sprayer! Now, I'll concentrate on an ATW....just need one that's light and adds ice automatically between rounds and drains itself....minor details....

Have you measured the pressure drop across the core? It seems like you have plenty of compressor left but what would the iats do if you turned it up?

Yea, I dont want to deal with the ice. But I'm still on 4 bolt heads so I really dont need to make much more power, been almost a year on the same gaskets

I have all the stuff to do the A2W, it will be about 20lbs more without ice/water then the A2A but thats a 17lb PT1500 IC which is pretty light.

But thats why I will do nitrous, figure a 15lb bottle will last a while with a 100-150 shot and make more power than the A2W. Maybe if I do a 6 bolt setup I'll try the nitrous since I'm compressor limited, I'm waiting for GM to make an aluminum LSx block too lol.

On paper the core loses 1 psi at 80lbs/mn, it loses 3.5psi at 145lbs/mn....so there would be some eff gain with an AtW on pressure drop.

IAT gain would be a wild guess...a compressor map doesn't exist for the TC turbos....only way to find out is boost up!

Kevin, you went electric water pump right? Would that be a good move for Tom here before doing A/W?

Tom have you ever driven around in heavy traffic, stop and go. What are your engine temps then, like in the middle of the summer?

Abingdon isn't Chicago what's stop and go???

Letting it sit and idle for 25 minutes was the best coolant test for me....only the fans pulling the air....which is much, much less than the airflow at 30mph.

As long as the car is moving 30-40mph, it's under 200F.

So when do you plan to boost up?
