Bye Bye factory guages.. Hello TFT and Single Board Computer
Not sure how many have seen or know about my truck, but it's a 63 pick up with a LS1 / 4L80E swapped in it. The only guages that actually work with out my laptop hooked up to it are the gas guage and oil pressure. When ever I drive it around, I have my laptop on my passanger seat which plugs in to the OBD2 port and runs my scanning pogram (also a tuning program). With the new seats in the truck, I think it will be much harder to see it and more likely to slide off the seat. So I have opted to put together a single board computer with TFT.
I have a 8.4" SVGA in my hands right now. Tempted to see if I can get a 12.1" wide-SVGA to work. If not maybe a 9" wide-VGA but not sure I will want the VGA resolution.
This type of stuff is what I sell on a daily basis, so why not put something together. I don't sell the lower end consumer based products, so everything is going to be semi custom. The cables, specific inverter, display. I'll put some pics up as I start to build it.

TFT stand for Thin Film Transistor. Another name for LCD screen (monitor). SVGA is the resolution (800x600). 1024x768 is XGA. W-SVGA is a wide screen that runs in basically a SVGA format, the side to side resolution number is a bit higher due to it's width but the top to bottom still runs in the 600dpi mode. Typically W-SVGA is around 1024x600.
The TFT/SBC would be running HP tuners all the time while driving.

Good deal. I have been thinking about making a setup like this for years. Im surprised nobody has come out with anything yet. Any gauge you want in any configuration and any font and color. Endless possibilities. This setup would be ideal for any sweep style dash. Very interested to see how it turns out.
