Default Eaton 3:73

I need some guys. I was just given a Eaton Posi with the 3:73 attached and also have the pinon gear in the box. The box also contains the carrier bearing and other various shims etc. I was wanted to know if there is a way to know if the Posi unit may be damaged. The stuff came out of a 10th anniverasry Firehawk. The guy has never abused the car, I don't even think he has ever spun the tires. He had a rear end wine, and the dealer ship replace every thing in the rear axle free of cost. They gave him everything back in boxes. They could not be sure of what it was, and not to have him come back again for the same problem they did him up. I can post pics if that could aid anyone in giving advise. Also there is no visual wear issuses on the teeth of the ring rear & and or the pinion gear.
Thanks in advance.

The Eaton was not a factory offered option so some pics will be needed. You can check the posi by inspecting the gears inside and if you take out the cross pin you can feel how much play is in the small pinoin gears. If they are really sloppy then you might consider putting new clutches in it.

I was looking at the pinon and it says 12-41, which leds me to beliveit is not a 3:73, but it is really a 3:42.

not a differential expert but it kind of looks like a torsen differential to me? Can someone else confirm that? Hopefully the guy that sold it to you didn't just put it in an Eaton box and assumed it was an Eaton posi.

Well I don't know. Is the torsen Diff better than a Eaton? What about the spider gears. Can I buy those and just those.

I was looking at the on of the Torsen diff on Ebay. The piece that I dunno about is actually goes inside the diff. Wonder if there is actully any spider gears at all.

I have found that it is a Torsen diff. Cause of the smaller drill type gear inside the chunck. The block actually a retainer.

I dont know If you're question has been answered yet but the differential in the pic is a torsen and the worm gears inside are irreplaceable from my understanding. If you can I would get your money back from whoever sold this unit to you.

Well there is nothing wrong with it. Everything is there from my understanding. I am used to seeing a cross pin that goes thur the diff, but from what I learn that pics above this that looks like a block is actually the cross pin.
