My friend is in the market for one..

its not elite...to be honest with i dont know how to tell the difference as it does have a harddrive...isnt the only difference between base and premium the harddrive and wireless controller?

the cheapest new ones are the arcade version with no hard drive and only one controller (not wireless) no headset, and no xboxlive gold membership...and thats for $299...thanks for the unnecessary and inaccurate input though

Prices dropped about a month ago...$199 for the Arcade, and that has a wireless controller.

i meant 199 but add a harddrive, a second controller, and a headset with gold membership and you would have to spend well over 300

How long is the subscription? If it's a year, that's another $50. Even 3 months is another $20.
