Default RWTD tune policy change?!

I paid the $100.00 for an unlimited custom tune a few months back, now a change of policy wil void and null what I've been told. I'm not really upset about it because I know these mail order tunes arent the most precise anyway but I think it kinda sucks that I spent $100.00 on something I would'nt have spent money on at all if I would have known James was going to do this in the end. Just thought I'd let everyone know contemplating using RWTD in the future of their new policy change.

Hummer

To My Valued Customers:

For the last two plus years, I have been giving free custom tuning to all
current and new tuning customers of RWTD. To my knowledge, RWTD is the only
company to ever offer such a service, especially for such a lengthy timeframe,
as well as offering such a service through any support forum system (it's a one
of a kind). However, this has become too overwhelming for me to support 100% in
this fashion, therefore hindering my abilities to give each and every customer
the proper time and service they need and deserve. To understand a small
portion of the workload I currently do, and have been doing, imagine spending 10
to 14 hours daily, everyday (7 days a week), doing nothing but tune requests
(honest)!

Although the foundation of my business was initially built on hardware sales
three years ago now, it was also modeled around a future of hardware, software,
and service sales combined. I achieved the hardware and service sales fully,
and will soon have the ability to sell the very same software I use and tune
with, DiabloSport's ChipMaster Revolution, in an end-user format to current and
new customers (which I will announce this product, and awesome service offerings
with it, in the coming future). Naturally, I will support all three areas
fully, but I must not only be fair to our customers, I must be fair to myself
and my company.

With this being said, I must take some considerable action regarding the current
status of custom tuning support through RWTD. I must implement a
pay-per-request custom tuning format, for all customers, both current and
future. I can assure you that I mulled over this for many, many months.
However, this will still remain a very fair system that I feel everyone can
appreciate. So please follow the below link to read the new policies concerning
RWTD's new custom tuning service:

http://www.diablosporttuning.com/cost_custom.htm

All the details are outlined within the above link, but basically, in a
nutshell, each paid tuning customer will have two (2) initial custom tuning
requests they can make without any additional surcharge. Each may receive a
maximum of two (2) custom tunes per each of the two (2) requests (both tunes
must be requested at once). Each additional request, past the initial two (2)
requests offered, will be assessed a very small fee of $20 (again, you may
request a maximum of two (2) custom tunes per each new request).

Consider the fact that the new service offerings will still be one of the best
within the industry, just as they have been one of the best up to this point (I
feel the best on both accounts). If you would be so kind, please ask yourself
where else are you are able to receive up to four (4) professionally made custom
tunes for such a small initial service fee, especially considering that all new
customers who purchase a Predator or Revolution chip from RWTD will receive the
same service and support for the selling price of the hardware.

However, to be fair, I feel that offering my current customers the ability to
start totally fresh is the best means that I can happily repay them with. Thus,
I will allow all current customers to have two (2) new custom tuning requests,
without being assessed a new fee. Naturally, after the two (2) new custom
tuning requests are used, then I must assess the $20 service fee for each new
request.

It is absolutely important that each and every one of you realize that you are
extremely valued as a customer of RWTD, and I would never purposely do anything
to destroy a business relationship that I have with my customers. You all
allowed RWTD to grow into what it now has become, and I am eternally grateful.
The above actions are completely necessary, and will allow me to promise that
RWTD will continue to be here for you throughout the future.

With Very Sincere Regards,

James - RWTD

On the one hand, $20 a pop is still well better than you'll
see from any other "mail order" tuner.

On the other hand, promises were made and now being
wriggled out from under.

I never understood how a lifetime of freebie custom tuning
drudgery could be supported by the commission on a one
time hardware sale. That must have been some serious
short term thinking.

If RWTD was to modify the custom tune support program
that you load onto the Predator, so that it wrote a plain-
format .bin file (GM standard) instead of proprietary, then
you would have a whole bunch of HPTuners folks who could
help you out with over-the-mail adjustments (potentially,
though willingness to play would vary). Unfortunately the
Predator email file is not standard. The way I see it, the
"opening up" of the Predator file format would vastly
increase the usefulness of the tool, making it a real
"tuning gateway" device.

I would look at the fine print (or fine e-text) of the
"product", if there is such a thing, and if you have
something that promises service and you paid for it
then you're entitled. The folks who bought Predators
based on the "verbal understanding" are probably not
so lucky but since you paid for the service specifically,
you should get what you paid for in its entirety.

Personally, I saw this coming... and I don't blame James at all for going this route. Dude was working on my tune at like 11pm my time on Sunday night (which is 2am Monday morning where he's at) and frankly I didn't know how he'd be able to continue doing what he does without getting some sort of compensation for it... he's been doing the free custom tuning now for over 2 years, and he has a TON of customers because of that.

The wait times have gotten longer and longer (waited 4 weeks for my most recent tuning request), but I've been a customer of James since February of 2003 and I remember back when I first got my Predator that he'd turn the tuning requests around in the same day or maybe 24 hours, so I can be a little impatient... while the wait times have been longer, he hasn't failed me on a tune yet, and I've had literally about a dozen or so custom tunes since then.

I think getting 2 requests with 2 custom tunes in each request is fair for $20... that basically means $5 a tune, which ain't bad at all. However, I didn't have to pay the original $100 though like you did, since I bought my Predator through RWTD. Now, I imagine there will be some people who don't buy from him because of the charge, and those who won't request tunes anymore because of the charge... but hopefully because of his charging people he'll be able to hire another person or two to help him out and the wait times will decrease some. We shall see...

I don't mind the additional 25$ but the waiting time...
I asked for a new tune 4 weeks ago, and their forum is now closed for another 2-3 weeks.
Yes a year ago a custom tune was ready in one day....good ol' days.

After this and similar posts James has decided to keep free unlimited tuning (within reason) for the members who've already paid the $100.00 charge like me. I think this was pretty cool of him.

Yup my first and only tune took for months to be completed, I got a cam now and I've been waiting for almost 2 months again.
I requested a new custom tune 4 weeks before their forum was closed down...
And it will take several attempt to make a tune good...so maybe I look forward a half a year time frame before I can say the tune is good.
While their sites states: to get a custom tune it takes 2-3 business days.
Just wondering what's up with the price policy...do I still have to pay couse I asked for the tune like 3 weeks before the new policy...not that I would care for 25$ if they send me a tune within 2-3 business days as it advertised.
