Dumb oil filter question
So I know this might be a dumb question but I really don't know and couldn't find it in a search.
I was changing my oil today and bought the wrong filter. I didn't realize this until i had the old filter off and the new filter filled with oil. The book @ pep boys must have steered me wrong.
Anyways, I couldn't go get another filter because my car had no oil in it, so i just refilled the oil and put the old filter back on.
My question is, can I change the filter without draining the oil pan, without making a huge mess, of course?

Our filters fit vertical, so yes you can just change the filter! then add about half a quart of oil. But if you already changed the oil and left the filter on! I suggest going ahead and changing both again! If your using conventional engine oil this will cost you roughly an additional $18 (6 quarts @ $3 a quart) + oil filter, others may dis-agree and say the new filter should filter out all of the bad ****, I say why take the chance?
