Default How have you guys done against ls1's?

Well i raced a local guy with an 01 z28, my mods are in my sig, and he had some MT's and a lid. From 20ish he took off really well and i just spun through first and he was gone (i need the driver mod). From a roll though (45 or so i think) it was much closer and up till about 110 he put about 1 to 1.5 cars on me. So how have you guys done against the ls1's out there (gto's camaro's stock or lightly modded) ? There is also a friend of mine around the corner from me that seems interested in running his stock 04 gto against the gxp, i think ill give him a go sometime.

You can take the 04 GTO because of a better weight advantage and the fact that it has the LS1 not the LS2....so unless its a heads cam car (or the like), I think you have 'em.

An f-body ls1 can run the 1/4 anywhere from 13.8-12.9 so it depends on the driver and the condition of the car since they are getting some miles put on them.

Work on the launch as others have said. If you can launch well you win against a lot of vehicles.

I think in my case with the z and it having drag radials and a bit more power it would of been very hard for me to out launch this thing, if at all. Once i got out of the low end of second gear though i though i was hanging with him pretty good, but thats after hes allready ahead.

Are your tires stockies??
Well if so, what I would do for better launch, is to take your Front tires down to 25-26 PSI! Blow the rears up to max PSI. temporarily remove the dunkin doughnut or any other pound adder out the trunk. Go from there,......

Yeah I come out of the hole pretty well, Only mods being the drag radials and Air lid.

I'm waiting on my Yank SS 3600 converter, Should launch pretty hard as long as I get it hooking with it.

I'm wanting to run a gto myself, they seem to be pretty rare around here though.

I have the Bridgestone Potenza summer tires, and no spare tire (gxp), and i did have around 40 psi in the front, i also have my stock cat and airbox in my trunk still for some reason. But thanks for the suggestions. And the z im talking about would belong to the fellow above.

X2

Just gotta be prepared for the fact that they are capable of running high 12's pretty much stock given a good driver and conditions.

40 psi in the front
you should only have 30 PSI normally, check the sticker on the inside of your door and it will tell you the proper psi. 40 psi is way to much and will cause your tires to wear premature.

I usually check the max psi and put it 5-10 lbs below that, so thats why i had 40, but i havent checked them in a while

dont listen the what your door says for psi...read what it says on the tire itself for the normal psi

Just went and checked, tire says 44 psi max, and checked the tires, they are all at about 32 psi. i didnt check the door though. Ive always followed the tires though, the door would only be good if you knew the tires were stockers i guess.

The door told me 32 PSI, at 32 PSI on the highway I get annoying vibrations coming off the wheels and road noise. I started obeying what was printed on my Goodyears in terms of PSI and that went away. So I vote obey the tires.

I've always been told to follow the door no matter what the tire becuase the tire doesn't know the weight of your car so the psi on the tire is usually the max, atleast thats what they tought us in college and every shop i've worked at.
