Default cold weather performance.

so its been like 0-10 and in the negatives in cleveland for awhile now, and ive seen and felt gains in my hp. anyway know what kinda of horsepower gains we get from -5 degree weather? my car is sole stock at the moment. would i see more gain with cai?

Cold air=HP.
Plus easier wheel/tire spin, as the ground is cold = no traction.

yeah, the colder the outside air temp is, the more power you will get... cuz colder air is more dense, so you get more air volume being sucked in through the intake, which leans ya out a little... resulting in some more HP as LS4Speed said...

Here's a little graph I did up last year that charts air density changes against temperature.

cold weather performance.-air-density.jpg

The chart compares density changes to manifold air temperature relative to 25*C (77*F)

Roughly speaking, the engine is being fed 20% more air mass at -25*C (-13*F). If you're at sea level, that would be equivalent to about three pounds of boost at 25*C. In theory, that would translate into 20% more power (assuming the engine was operating at the same temperature as on the 25*C day). In reality, the gain at the wheels is going to be a somewhat smaller percentage than that due to increased drivetrain losses at colder temperatures.
