New member with question...
Hello everyone - I purchased my 2006 SS a few weeks ago and really like it. I had a Magnaflow catback installed and really like that too.
My questions is about the tuning. The car is stock other than the Magnaflow. It seems to be running rich. The exhaust tips get very black very quickly after I clean them. The engine also seems to "miss" a bit at upper rpms. Has anyone else experienced this and can the dealer "tune" the car appropriately under the factory warranty?
Thanks

They can't really tune it but they can check for any updates and install those on your PCM. If you are saying there is a miss it could be a sparkplug, plug wire, or dirty maf.
I would get a CAI to let a little more air in. This may cure the rich problem or at least lessen it a bit. Also, if you want a tune you can check out these guys.

So, do these engines tend to run rich?
The idea of a CAI makes sense. I opened the exhaust, but not the intake. More air = better mixture.
I may also change the plugs for peace of mind - any suggestions on a superior replacement plug?

I would go one or two heat ranges colder. I went with Autolites... One heat range colder is XP104's and two are XP-5243's. I went with the XP-5243's. They have been in since Oct. 2008 and no fouling of the plugs.

I found the same thing with my MF tips...excess soot...but it makes sense. If you follow the exhaust pathway, more will exit out of the D/S tail pipe. It was that way stock, and is still that way with the K&N and MagnaFlow catback.

Mine get black too. I use Mothers Metal Cleaner/Polish and they stay nice for about a week. As for the "miss", mine seems to "lurch, knock, miss, hesitate" something like that if I'm running 87octane fuel.

Colder plugs will lean it out a bit too. When I did mine I noticed it took about 2 weeks for the tips to even get a slight coat of soot on them. They remain cleaner for a longer time.
