Default Killed a Vette this weekend!

So this weekend the Wife and I were on our way to a charity fundraiser. On the way there is this 94 or 95 Vette pulling up next to me. My wife noticed him down shifting and jumping...(I'm trying to ignore him cause he's driving a Vette for crying out loud) and my wife is like "I think he wants to race." So I'm like the hell with it....Okay!

I down shifted to first at about 35 and we were off. To my suprise I was pulling on him and pulled about half a car length ahead...took it to the top of second 102 and at that point I had him by a whole car. We did this three times including once on the freeway and I spanked his butt everytime. I even pulled on him in second from about 55-60!

I know I know that either he or she didn't know what they were doing or the car had some tuning issues...but I'll take that win. Sure makes me feel better about my GP. Whoever it was must've felt really stupid after seeing my wife in the passenger seat and my daughter's (empty) car seat in the back!!

Pulling on an LT1 'Vette is fun, the first couple times you do it, then it gets boring. Unless they are modded up decently, it is no contest.

Nice kill, I love the faces on LT1 drivers

I raced a Vette recently, yellow C5 coming up behind, I thought this'll be fun. He got beside me and I seen the Z06... Needless to say he wasn't stock and I didn't win Sorry for the hijack

Nice job. How many of you guys have ran your cars at a track to check your quarter mile times? I see that most of the posters on this thread are modded to varying degrees, but I'd be interested to know what your times are. Mods certainly change the ball game completely. To me, stock for stock, an LS4 has no chance against a stock LT1 vette, unless the vette driver is asleep or doesn't know how to drive. LT1 vettes run low to mid 13's stock (unless the car is saddled with the crummy 2.59 or 2.73 rear end), while stock LS4's run low to mid 14's, right? If you guys are walking stock LT1's, maybe I need to step up to some mods on my MCSS...

There are a lot of dudes who own LT1 vettes that still feel that they're faster than they are (I've been to enough car shows to hear all the blowhards, etc., geez...)

From my seat of the pants experience, I feel that there's no way my stock MCSS can keep up with my stock GS in a race. (Yes, my GS is an LT4, but still not that much different than an LT1 in performance.)

Anything can happen on the street, though...carry on...

Plenty of people here have ran at the track if you look around. There have been a few cases of people getting into the 13's stock with LS4 cars, so not sure why it's out of the realm of possibility to beat an LT1 if the LS4 gets a better launch or something. It's not like someone is claiming to have taken a C5 Z06 stock or something. Fastest N/A LS4 I believe was almost near a 13 flat. And the turbo'd LS4 cars are into the 11's.

I did, on the street one morning on a long drive to work, about half a dozen times from a dead stop and slow rolls to 60 MPH. They guy could not drive it worth a damn, banged the rev limiter in first on the first roll, then he kept short shifting it and my long first gear would pull him enough to edge him out to 60 while he was futzing with getting into second gear. He also had to baby it off the line or he would wag his tail and lose time that way. Did I indulge him in his urge to go from 60 on up? Nope. As I consider 60', 0-60, 1/8th, and 1/4 mile to be standard benchmarks of racing, I therefore claim that I won the 0-60 MPH race with a (albeit poorly driven) C5 ZO6. a bunch of times. Now, I am not stock, but not far from it. I doubt the estimated extra 20/20 h/t I have made the slightest difference.

I wasn't refuting the original post of this thread - apologies if that's the way my post came off. I love surprising people in my Monte. The performance of these cars isn't widely known, which makes them a lot of fun to drive every day and catch unsuspecting victims. It's all good, no disrespect or "BS" intended.

I've come to the conclusion that a stock LT1 only makes 300hp. The car was at least a 95...which makes the car damn near 15yrs old. If no mods were done and the car just wasn't taken care of as well as it should've been....it would be an easy victory. I'm not saying that a stock LS4 can take a stock LT1 everytime...but it's definately a toss up. Only mods I have are a bigger Y-pipe, Flowmasters, and a K&N air charger. (And I'm a damn good driver if I may say so myself!)

This encounter has encouraged me to go to the track. I'll be going for the first time on Friday. Do you guys run with the traction control on or off?

First off no GXP is pullied due to the fact we are a N/A v8 not the 3800 S/C. So you raced a slower car then ours.

Yea he had a GTP, or GT depending on the year with the L32 supercharged 3.8 with 260hp. However there is alot of potential out of the L67 and L32 motors so you can't necessarily just make a blanket statement that he's slower cause he has the 3.8. There are some L67 04-05 Impala SS's over on NAIOA that are faster than the 06+ LS4 SS's and they just have the basic mods and nothing crazy. There's also a huge aftermarket for those engines thanks to the L67 Grand Prix GTP's being so popular for so many years. There's a ton of those L67 and L32 cars that would spank an LS4.

But yea, stock for stock the LS4 shouldn't be far behind an LT1 Vette.

Doesn't a Vette weigh less than a Grand Prix? I can see why then it may win stock for stock. But, the LS4's are no slouches. I mean it IS still and LS engine. Just because it's in a Grand Prix, Monte, Impala, or LaCrosse doesn't mean it's no less of an engine.

We should all get along and NOT make this forum into what Club GP has become. I am not sure how this post has come across and in no way is it meant to get anyone angry.

Well, it is all aluminum. Comes stock with LS6 heads and is sleeved. It also has 6 bolt mains. Only weighs 478 pounds without the accessories and harness. Not too shabby for a stock motor.
