I'm not sure of the internals between the LS4 engine and the Vortec engine. I think and could be wrong but are completely different engines? I didn't think LS heads would fit on a Vortec engine?

The heads will bolt to any Vortec, as they're simply the LS6 heads designed for the 2001-2004 Z06 Vette. While Vortec/LSX heads may interchange, the different chamber sizes may preclude their usage in some combinations, however, this is just like any older small block Chevy.

Other than the crankshaft, the internals are interchangeable...though there are differences between DoD and non-Dod parts.

Glad I could help! I've been tinkering with Gen III (and Gen IV) motors since 2000 and have probably owned half-a-dozen vehicles powered them. There's a ton of info out there and it's easy to get overwhelmed.
I am convinced that these engines are God's gift to the performance enthusiasts!
