Default Nice transmission update TCI 3200 Stall Streetfighter Converter and...

So the torque converter went (and it was OEM) and burnt the clutches. I decided after talking to Russ at TCI to spend the $570 on the Streetfighter (plus $30 ship) over $250 for the stock converter. Plus (this is the and) I'm adding the Raybestos Stage 1 Red Street Clutches. I may also add a trans-cooler. I don't think I will need the 3.29 gears after this. I was told I could see a gain of any where from .2 to .5 tenths in my times. Best so far was 13.9@99.5 1.8 60ft. wearing 18x7.5 HD Signature Series wheels with Nexen N3000s@18 psi (wonder if those wheels saved me any weight over the Alcoas) average 14.2-14.3@96-97 with the Alcoas. Need your opinion guys. Should I use Royal Purple Max ATF D3@$13.00/qt or use TCIs Street Performance Trans Fluid which is just over $50 for 12 Quarts?

So one year after my first rebuild my trans goes again. Does anyone know the site or place that has the upgraded and better built torque converter (than the OEM one)? I saw one that was the same price as stock. Any other parts that I can upgrade for the rebuild price and where to order would be highly appreciated asap. Thanx guys. Cost $2200 to rebuild last year so I want to build it better this year.

sucks that they keep going out on you. I am at 85K or so on the original (and mine sees pretty extreme duty both on road and off), maybe it is something else causing them to fail for you. My mother had a 626 back in the 80's and it went through 6! additional tranny's (in 20K miles) after the original went belly up at around 60K. Eventually, they swapped out some control modules or some such thing that were not part of the tranny and the last one lasted until the engine puked at 140K or so. Just something to think about...

You can check TEP or ZZP. TEP rebuilt mine and it's about as robust as you can get. Dave does fantastic work and will help eliminate a lot of the weak spots on these transmissions.

Default Found what I was looking for

BUT is there a difference between the way the 4T65EHD bolts up to the supercharged L67 motor vs our LS4 V8? If not, I'm getting this Raptor Converter.

Please stay away from the Raptor Converter. This is why I need another build is because it was $hit when I put it in. It started to whine after about 3 months and made my trans run very hot. I have to take the conv. out anyway so I am putting a fresh build by TEP and one of his converters in and being done with it. Sick of screwing around with the trans. Get one from Dave at TEP he has one that fits 245mm bolt holes and 258mm bolt holes but is a 245mm converter. It's a universal fit. It weighs less and is way better than the Raptor. If money is an issue the get a Precision converter from Dave at TEP. He uses these in his strip rebuilds and they are very dependable. The only difference between the LS4 version and the L67 version is a little higher stall but they both use a 258mm converter. It is almost identical to the LS4 4t65E the only differences are better internal hardened parts for the LS4 ones and the starter is mounted on the casing. Other than that they are the same. Come apart the same and go back together the same.

I just don't want what happened to me to happen to you with the Raptor conv.

Basically. The converter is a different size or something is all. I think some people have TEP ones.

Maybe the GXP has tapshift stuff too.

A regular Grand Prix has a 245mm converter in it. They are lighter but the bolt holes are in a different spot. We have 258mm t.c. like the GTP's have which the bolt holes do not line up with a 245mm t.c. To remedy this we either need to purchase a 258mm t.c. or if you want a lighter one get a 245mm with the holes drilles for a 258mm one. TEP has both. I am going with a 258mm Precision one sold by TEP. Hope this helps.

What gives a GXP the Tap-Shift is a different valve body inside the trans. Other than that the trns. is the same as all the LS4 cars. Someone put this on a Monte or Impala. All that would be needed is a valve body out of a GXP, TCM, and the tap-shift wiring.

That would be nice if it came like that off the line...

X2 would of saved us the headaches and them the cost. To bad they didnt care about spending more $ to replace them then just making it a bit better and charging more.

TCI 3200 Stall Streetfighter installed so far NO CODES!!! Feels better around town shifts are smooth (Raybestos Stage 1 Red Street Clutches, Amsoil also). Motor seems to rev quicker and def feels quicker when acclerating (have not done a full start from a stop yet to test the stall converter) gonna wait until a couple hundred miles are on the converter and clutches. Let you know when I go the track is I've gained anything. Gears are next.
