Hit this on my second run. Track was rough and I spun a lot. On some bald pirelli stockers. I know she has more in her. Ls1 manifold catless downpipe. Stock cat back with flowmasters welded on tuned by vince at trifecta tuning.[IMG][/IMG]

You might have to add another section for LS4 engine swaps!

12.896 @ 114.1, fieroguru - 2.194, 8.538 @ 88.15 [4" CAI, LS7 MAF, LS2: TB, Intake, Injectors, LS7 manifolds, 12# flywheel, 10" Spec Stage 4+ clutch, F40 6 speed manual] (88 Fiero that weighs 2807 lbs)

Very nice. Are you have traction issues?

Yes, launching in 2nd gear, had trouble finding the sweet spot between spinning and bogging the engine. The other issue is the 2-3 upshift is crap... still working on the cause.

Is it a linkage problem, internal, or completely indeterminable? Also what tires? Can the trans hold up to radials or slicks?

What's causing the 2-3 upshift issue is a very good question.
1. The transmission wasn't designed for a sports car, so it might not have be designed to have lightning fast shifts. 1 & 2 have triple syncros, but 3rd does not. 1/2 are also on the same gear shaft, but 3/4 are on the other one, so that might be a contributor.
2. The 10" solid face clutch is great for drivability, but makes the syncros work harder to slow the input shaft and clutch down. 7000 RPM upshifts just make this worse.
3. I had adjusted the thottle follower settings to close the throttle faster, so I went back to stock LS2 manual settings and slowwed things down. I might have been droping RPM too fast and making the syncros work to speed the input shaft up vs. the normal process of slowing it down.
4. I had already lowered the transmission fluid level to the revised spec (to improve shift quality), but still running the GM fluid. Many people are switching to Redline with a lubrication additive and seeing smoother/quicker shifts. So I will be changing fluid.
5. I suspect part of the issue is not cleanly engaging 3rd, but instead also tapping on 1st or 5th and being locked out of any gear selection.
5A. So first step was to rebuild the shifter (30 years old) and that made the shifts feel better.
5B. The spring tension to auto center the shifter in the 3-4 gate is weaker coming fron the 1-2 gate than it is from the 5-6 gate, so I am looking into options to improve the 1-2 sping pressure to help guide the shifter into the 3-4 gate.
5C. I also have removed the transmission shifter assy to look for options to taper some sections of the internal shift gate to allow the 2-3 shift to happen is more of a staight line (diagonal) motion. Looks promising.
5D. I just broke my shifter cable and while looking at it, at full extension (like shifting into 1/3/5) the cable does have some ability to flex sideways and reduce the pressure for gear engagement. Long term solution is to have a custom cable made, short term I am just replacing the cable with another new one.
5E. Might need a driver mod... I have had manual cars forever and this is the first one I have ever had a 2-3 upshift issue on, so I don't think it is me, but it is a possibility.

Tires are 245/50/16 G-Force Comp 2 summer radials. Next year I will step up to larger/wider wheels to run an 18" tire in the 275 to 295 width with a much stickier compound. The transmission is rated at 295 ft-lbs on the input shaft and I am putting about 375 ft-lb to it. So I am trading off some overall transmission life for the higher performance. I think the transmission is up for the task, I suspect I will break an outer CV at some time (small 33 spline @ wheel bearing), then I will machine the uprights to accept a larger wheel bearing and larger CV housing.

Yeah, 382 whp and 2807 lbs w/o driver, 3050 w/driver. Many fieros trapping 114mph are in the high 11's, so that is my goal with better tires and more practice at launching and rowing the gears.

I have a 01 ss with lt headers and C/A/I ported TB and tune but I have only done one pass and I know my times should be lower I did 13.7 I know I was spinning bad and was my first time on the track so should I just practice more or get new tires I have 275/30zr19 and they are not in great shape any opinions?

That's promising to me as I'm hoping to have a similar setup soon.

That set up should easily go 13.2 or Better. I very consistently go 13.4-13.5 with ls1 intake trifecta tune and catless down pipe. I have stock cat back with flowmasters welded on.

Even better as I'll have a stock cat back with a catted hogan DP and ls1 intake. Mid 13's would be a good goal for me.

If you can get to 2.0 or 1.9 your probably looking at a 13.1-13.2 keep trying you'll get it. My 13.4 run was with a 2.24 60 foot at 105.9. So traction is all that's holding me out of the 12s.
