Need thoughts from GP GXP owners
I am in need of a new dd and a 06 GP GXP has caught my eye, it has low miles and a really good price on it. I no there aren't a lot of mods for it and wasn't planning on modding a lot since it will be my dd. I am only wanting to mod to help get it better mpg, I was going to put a CAI, cat back exhaust, hogan dp, headers, and maybe a cutout for fun (I no that soesnt help the mpg lol). Is there anything else I could do?
And tell me the truth about this car. What is the good bad and the ugly on it. What would I have to worry about if I bought this car? Thanks in advance.

The GXP's are great dd's. I had one as my previous car. Stock tranny is weak, which was the biggest thing for me. Power is good although the aftermarket is lacking.

Good: V8, DOD (in a mpg way), HUD, I am a dd also and I love the way it handles, I also love the interior, TAP shift
bad, very bad: Transmission is weak, You will probably have to change it sooner or later. Mine has been fine so far *knock on wood*

Yeah, the trans. suck in these cars but it is a great platform and they do not make Pontiacs anymore so I am holding on to mine. They make quite a bit of mods if you are creative. I have only 2 more N/A mods to go and then....who knows? With the proper tuning and complimentary mods you can turn high 12's with these cars. It's a fun DD, you'll like it.

Excellent DD, get a tune. GPM went down with exhaust and K&N, car made beautiful music and I would make her sing every time I got a chance. LS6 intake and tighter stall should help GPM. I have heard rumors of the tranny being weak. Battery is starting to run low on laptop. Where did I put my keys. Crap my thoughts tend to wander a little. Oh look a duck.

Pros:
These cars are perfect DD's. Very comfortable and roomy. Handle extremely well, and have plenty of power, for an all stock vehicle. Stops, on a dime too!
They put down about 250-255hp at the wheels and can do high 13's with a a 2.0 or better 60ft and holding 2nd in tapshift. FWD makes a nice all weather driver.
If you need something with four doors that is sporty and fun to drive then I think you'll be happy. These cars get a lot of thumbs ups and "hey man nice car!" comments.
Cons.. Not the best car for modding, its very hard to break over 275hp to the wheels. Tranys are weak, but mine still works perfectly at 45k, and I beat on it.

Thanks for all the replies, I really want to get it now lol. What needs to be done to the tranny to beef it up so it will last, and how much money will that take?
Also where is the cheapest places you guys have been able to find to get K&N intake, Magnaflow exhaust and QTP electric cutouts? And will hi flow cats still make the check engine light turn on?

Its got 26k and they are asking 12 for it. I think I can talk them down to 11 too. I kbb it and it is worth 15 since its at a dealer.
I still want to know if a high flow cat will still sent the check engine light on? And what r the best websites with the cheapest stuff?

If it's at GM dealer, make sure the car is GM Certified Used. If not, you can pay an extra $1100 or so to get it certified. With that, you get 12/12000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty AND a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Warranty is a must for these cars, as you will lose the tranny at some point, most likely before 100,000 miles.

That's the "as delivered" warranty when it was purchased new. My 06 Impala was certified when I bought it, and has the 100k powertrain warranty still in effect.
The GM Certified warranty has nothing to do with the "new car" warranty, though it is possible to have both in effect at the same time.

You may want to call GM customer service and make sure you don't have warranty, because it's POSSIBLE you could.

AFAIK, only a GM dealer can certify used (oh my) a car. Like others have said, what that does is provide the 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
Now if you want an extended warranty, that's something else. And don't be fooled by GMPP extended warranty. It is not an extended bumper to bumper warranty!

I'm glad my car was certified, as I'm about to bring it in for for a dying tranny tomorrow!
