What will your goals be for the car? I can suggest quite a bit but I'd need to know what you want out of the car first. Basically, that will depend what I suggest to you what to get.

looking for a car that i can drive daily, but at the same time be able to take it to the strip once a week and do 20 mid 13's passes without having to worry about a busted car and not making it to work the next day

well... $1k on a trans build would be nice, but if you want to do it right, especially if the car is a daily driver, I personally would suggest a GM 1 inch chain because it doesnt stretch. That alone will cost $1000 about. I also recommend the GM-Racing Torsen Differential for our cars which last I checked ran for $1300. Personally I feel the chain is a must. The others will eventually stretch and they will need to be replaced.

Isn't the 1" chain no longer available? And with a mid 13 second build, I doubt it'd really need that much.
Intake, 3" Catless downpipe, and a tune should get you the power needed to hit mid 13's.

I say spend it all on the trans so you can launch properly on some DRs/slicks. Basic exhaust/$200 downpipe/intake will get you to the mid 13's or better.
I tried searching for a 1" racing chain to get started on a build but I couldn't locate one anywhere.

I would get a catless DP, rockers, tune, cai, or fwi. CL dp is 300.00 or so, rockers are 300.00 to 400.00, tune is 250.00 or so, and fwi is 100.00. For the trans I would get the Volvo Master Clutch Kit, and a TransGo shift kit form TEP and maybe one of thier reman. t. conv. & hardened input shaft. Clutch kit is 250.00 or so, shift kit is 70.00 and the t. conv. is 175.00 and a 50.00 core charge, the input shaft is 450.00 or so. Our stock chain is a hardened dual chain set up and is good for low 13 sec. passes. This will still keep the car realiable and you'll have a good trans. set-up.

I guess the census here is everyone feels it isn't worthy to purchase it. It is expensive, but Dave at TEP, at least when I was purchasing my chain, advised to go that route for my particular build. I guess if he isn't going all out then I'm sure he could get away with a different chain. If I'm not mistaken the 7/8 chain is actually stronger than the 15/16.
I'm trying to find an amazing write up that Dave at TEP also wrote about the GMR Torsen Diff on GPF.net but the forum apparently has crashed, haha.

FWIW, I agree with both Mgpeagle and Red03GT. Mgp's way (rockers) will get you more power, and Red03's way (slicks) will get you better traction. Both will get you in the 13s.
