Dead Battery, need advice...
Well it's my turn to replace my battery... Yey... lol... I've decided to go with either an Optima Red Top #35 or a Yellow Top #D35. Can anyone tell me which one is better? The Red Top has 720 cranking amps and I think the Yellow Top has 680 cranking amps. The YT is for aftermarket electronics which I may end up with at some point. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

I like the Red Tops in all my vehicles, but you can't go wrong with either. Since you are limited to 10 minutes on acc without running the engine (or twisting the key over and over again), it doesn't seem to be a big deal either way on which you go with. See what the prices are and go from there. BTW, I got mine at NAPA, had it in stock and was cheaper than anywhere else I could find.

Thanks Doug. I'll probably go with the Red Top. The Red Top is 179.99 and the Yellow Top is 209.99. The YT I can get tonight, the RT I have to wait till tomorrow. Thanks again.

Well, I went with a D-35 Yellow Top. No one, and I mean no one had a Red Top in stock. Hey, at least I got an Optima... I guess this is a better choice in case I want to add any aftermarket electronics.

I have learned that the yellow tops are specifically made for heavy electrical drainage like winching and highend SPL sound systems. The YT are designed to be drained totally and can be recharged faster over and over and over again without damaging its internal componets (deep cycle). Were as the red tops are made for DD and may not function or last as long as a YT would by the whole draining and recharging process. But i say if ur going to add a system or any type of Aftermarket electronics go YT.. Just my 2 cents

According to Johnson Controls, the Red Top should give you more starts over its life just driven normally, but wear out faster if you deep cycle your battery a lot. I have no idea how many deep cycles it takes for the Yellow Top to give you more starts than the Red Top, but if you bump with the engine off I'd go Yellow. The Yellow Top also stores more energy. Either way, they are both good batteries, and I don't think you'll be kicking yourself about buying a Yellow Top.

Thanks for all the feedback fellas. I did the install this morning and I must say it IS a pain in the a$$! The fuse box definately needs to come apart. After that it isn't too bad. I also modified my battery tray too. I put 2 drainage holes in the tray so water can escape as mine was starting to get rusty. Also, my old battery was about to explode. The two sides of it were bellowed out and the battery smelled like a really stinky fart. lol...
The YT looks right at home in the engine bay and fits perfectly.
