Default Tranny trouble??

I'm starting to notice some sort of grinding when in first gear kind of idling up to a red light. My car still shifts smoothly but when I use paddles or just leave it in full auto it doesnt feel smooth in first. I only feel it when im kind of inching up to a red light. I dont have a shift kit. Everything is stock on my tranny. Should I have this checked, before it becomes a tranny rebuild?

check your fluid if it smells burnt or looks discoloured, change it.

You under any kind of warranty? Sounds to me like the converter is starting to come apart, which will take the rest of the tranny with it.

If you're under waranty, get it to a dealer. If not, get it to reputable trans shop. It doesn't sound like you have much time. Grinding is not normal, even with a low fluid condition.

Not trying to scare ya, but a BUNCH of us have had trannys replaced or rebuilt. It's the shitty converters that our cars come with that causes it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks guys. Taking it to the dealer today. I dont really trust the local shops around here. Theyre always trying to hustle somebody. I think it may still be under warranty. Gotta check the books

If you bought it new and are 100,000 miles, you're still covered by the powertain warranty. If you bought it used from a GM dealership, it was probably certified and woulld still have 5 year/100k miles on the powertrain.

Hopefully, you fall into one of these categories.

You probably do have the 5/100, but you'd better check with a dealer. GM changed from 5/50 to 5/100 sometime during the 2007 model year.

GM never had a 5/50 PT warranty. It was just the 3/36 like the rest of the B2B in 2006, and in 2007 it jumped to 5/100 with the 3/36 B2B.

Thanks for the info you guys. Funny thing is, I had no issues yesterday. I'm still getting it checked out. I bought it new in 07 so I have the 100k warranty. I'm sure I won't have my car for a month if they find a problem though

Probably right. Mine was down for 3 weeks while the tranny was being rebuilt.

Grinding? I'd bet a faulty converter. Been down that road more than once...

@EDDIE, I didnt get up there yet but my buddy is a service manager at a Chevy joint so hes gonna come drive it and let me know what he thinks. Problem is it doesnt happen much. Might just be my head screwing with me since I read about all the guys with tranny problems!
