I was on the free 3-month trial and when that was up, I didn't renew.
I just recently (a month or so ago) signed up for 5 months for $20 and some change.
The quality may suck on some stations, but it's really the content that counts.

You're just not paying enough attention. Just switching over to XM from FM should be enough to notice the quality drop.
The quality drop is obvious due to the limitations in bandwidth. Therefore, the streams need to be compressed. In fact, certain stations are compressed more than others.
Talk radio will sound worse than Top 20/40 Pop stations. And even then, "20s on 20" sounds worse (when comparing the same song on both stations) than "KISS-XM" to me.

So even though you're receiving the service you paid for, you lied to get something for free? I can see your friend getting it since the service wasn't rendered but I couldn't see lying for it.

Yeah I think if you just said you can't afford to pay the $12 or whatever they would find a price that's affordable.
I have paid for XM for the past 8 years - the FM stations around here are horrible - can't stand all the talking and commercials, and the XM blows them away in clarity.
