Default 5X115 vs 5X114.3

I finally found a set of Wheels I like but before I make the purchase I have 1 question. Will the 5X114.3 BP work on The GXP?

I tire & wheel guy voiced that concern to me about snapping wheel studs & said I especially should be concerned because of the high torque these cars produce.

5x115 is the factory lug spacing. 114.3 will work but they make break the studs or cause vibrations.

I use 5x114.3 on my grand prix which is a daily driver. I have even taken a 13 hour trip (each way) and have had no issues or vibrations. I do use hub rings. I have had the wheels for 5 years now and never snapped a stud. As a matter of fact, I snapped a lug when I was using aftermarket 18's with a 5x115 bolt pattern. In my opinion you will be fine with the 114.3 bolt pattern. There are many guys on other grand prix forums using the wheels with no issues, and that includes trips to the track.

I would only use 115 since I don't want studs breaking and possibly have a wheel falling off. Sure you might get away with it, but you don't want to be one of those that has problems. And it does happen quite often with the wrong size wheels. I definitely wouldn't want to have a problem with a wheel when I'm going fast that's for sure.

I've heard some bad things about it, also heard that people have zero issues. However, with the way I drive my car, I'm not sure I could afford to shear a couple studs off in the middle of a turn doing 80, trying to fight oversteer.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll stick with the 115 BP,not worth risking saftey just for aesthetics.

You can do it but you have to use floating lug nuts.

I think he means the ones that have slotted washers under the lugnuts. They were popular years ago but I don't think they sell them anymore.

Floating lug nuts have a "free moving" washer that makes better contact with the wheel. They aren't for incorrect lug patterns though. They're also pretty expensive, probably use the extra cash to get the correct lug pattern.
