Transmission Cooler

Transmission Cooler
I asked the guy at ZZ Performance about adding a transmission cooler and he stated that he did not recommend it. He talked about the posibility of it leaking and other negatives. I thought I would pass the info on.

done right its proven over and over again on the benefits everyone knows heat is transmissions #1 failure i prefer to still use the radiator cooling as well as the extra cooler its 40% extra cooling especially in traffic where there's not alot of air movement that's my opinion

It would be foolish to not install one. Especially since it may only add $75 - $100 to your repair bill anyways. If you have a GXP, you will see on the DIC that temp will run into the 200s real quick. With my cooler installed, I have yet to see it go over 170, even in summer, city traffic.

That's probably the most bullshit thing I've every heard a supposed "reputable vendor" tell a customer, and it makes me very glad I bought from TEP. ZZP has again proven they're a bunch of two-bit hacks when it comes to transmissions.
Yes, cooler lines can leak if you don't tighten them. If you keep 'em tight, they won't leak. But that applies to anything. I mean, if you don't tighten the clamps for the cold-air intake that ZZP will sell you, then you'll have problems, too. Geez.
One thing that does need to be kept in mind is, our trans problems are not caused by heat, but by design and engineering issues. Heat only makes it worse, as the cars will regularly run over 200 degrees if trans temps without a cooler.
I have a motor home sized cooler on my Impala, and I rarely see over 160, even in 90 degree weather. Most of the time, I'm around 130-145.

Weren't ZZP the same company selling milled LS4 throttle bodies to LSJ-powered vehicles while completely "ignoring" us?
To add insult to injury, when we showed interest (@$100), they raised the price to $149.99.
Oh, but it gets better because now it's at $199.99: http://www.zzperformance.com/cobalt_...ts1.php?id=999

Problem two zzp literally knows nothing about the GXP, they honestly act if it does not exist sometimes, you best best is to ask the guys at triple edge performance about tranny coolers and you may get the insight your looking for.

Of course it could leak, but so could the oil pan they sell if it weren't installed properly. Not to mention the possibility of problems with other parts they sell like heads, short blocks etc.

Depends on the size of the cooler and how much leaks out when you cut the lines. Don't add any before you check the level, just drive the car till it's warm and check the level. If you overfill it, just use a small hose to siphon the extra out of the fill tube.
