Never had problems with Royal Purple or Rotella. Amsoil is next on my list.

I was wondering what others thought about Amsoil...

I paid for it once, got about 4 months/2800 miles into the oil life and I was 1.5 quarts low.

I switched back to Valvoline SynPower and I don't burn any oil...just my personal experience...I do drive mostly city though, 30-40 mph 12-20 miles a day during the week.


EDIT: The Amsoil was 5W30.

I've heard of people going a year and 13000 miles on it... Which weight did you use?

I've never burned oil... GTX, before I swapped to M1, then moved to RP, we'll see how the Rotella does, only a week and 600 miles old.

well gm also says dex cool is the way to go and we all know how that ends up,
schaeffers is the only oil im aware of that wil float bearings with zero oil pressure and its not on the list so ya know


fyi Napa branded oil is Valvoline in a napa wrapper just so save you a little $$$ also had a castrol oil rep tell me all this "specially formulated" oil is just the same oil they have always produced, like a synthetic blend might be better for high mileage so they call it that

and i believe orileys is havoline cant remember them all any more

I use Amsoil 0w-30 and my last oil change I had 11kmi on it and the analysis said I could go 3500 more.

I've just been using regular mobil 10-30 should I be using synthetic?

Used Amsoil 5w30 for the last three 10,000 mile oil changes, I went with 0w30 this time around to see if I can get rid of this disappearing oil magic trick.

Rlong first off i would be using 5w30 because that is what the vehicle calls for. i also feel that you should use a synthetic blend unless you have ludicrous miles. i would be using full synthetic if it was new. using 0w30 is fine as long as it is not freezing out but i don't know why use a thinner oil when losing oil.

Don't use Royal purple. Ames oil was the first in sythetics. Stuff was used for aircraft back in the day if my memory serves correct. It's the king IMHO... I used to get it from GI joes but they have shut down the stores in my area. I would be my first choice.
I now use Mobile1 5/30w spring thru summer and 0/30w in the winter.

I am using Pennzoil Platinum but am going to switch to Pennzoil Ultra on the next change. Also, current using Wix oil filters.
