new engine

Default new engine

engine has been sucking up oil, had my lifters and valve covers replaced along with a gaskets but problem was still apparent but not as bad. so my mechanic is talking to the manager about dropping a new engine in. he was just going to redo the rings in mine but guess he changed his mine. im excited. does anyone know how the break in procedure usually go for a new engine.

Nice and easy for the first 5k and change the oil

If it's brand new or freshly rebuilt, change the oil at about 800 miles to get all of the assembly crap (cam lube, dust, etc.) out of the motor.

Next year, maybe.

Run it easy for 1000 or so, then change the oil. I've read a lot of different break-in periods.

This was the same as what I have always been told.
