Default Quick winter tire question

Was taking a look at tirerack.com and it says my 08 imp ss can run 16-18'' rims... Is this correct?

any other imp owners out there with a set of winter tires (cheapish but better than all season grip?) what size do you run rim/wheel?

thanks for ur time guys!

(august 2nd.. and i'm looking into buying winter tires.. gotta move to mexico)

I have a set of 07 Impala LTZ 17 inch rims that I run in the winter. I have 225/55/17 Firestone Winterforce on them. All seasons are useless in the winter, the Winterforce work great in my opinon and cost me $94 a tire last year from Tirerack. Go to Walmart and they mount each tire for $5 and spin balance for $5.

Yeah you can run 16s... Smaller the better in winter, and that includes width. I run 225s on 17s on my GXP. That is the smallest rims size. Stock is 255 so that is a nice downsize.

Me too. I picked up 4 wheels and 4 Dunlop Graspics from Tirerack for under $1000 a while back, and they are less than half done after two winters of hard driving.

I am looking for some winter wheels/tires too, GP 16'' wheels are dirt cheap...are there any draw back to using 16'' wheels?

Also is it necessary to install TPMS sensors in the wheels, or can we run without them?

It's necessary if you want to be able to read your tire pressure on your dash. But if it's just a winter tire setup then I'd say go without it since it just adds extra cost to a temporary setup. Just make sure to check your pressure with a gauge once in a while.

Hahaha, some places in Michigan's U.P. get on average 350" of snow a year. That's insane! We get roughly 55" though here in akron.

I'm running 16" Impala cop wheels year-round. They're cheap and easy find. Just Google Impala 9C1 wheel and make sure they're for 2000 and up. My set was $200 plus the ride from a private seller. I believe they're 16x8s.
