Got the new TRANS & COOLER in.
So finished up my trans install last night, also installed a B&M super cooler. With the old tranny and no cooler it would run about 210 with an 85 outside temp on the highway. New setup runnin 161 with a 66 outside temp in town (156 on highway).

Both headlights, the plastic closeout panel that the headlights attach to, the lower grill, I only took out the right side of the upper grill but would have been easier with both out. Then I lined up the cooler so the I only had to drill holes in the hood latch support (since its removable). There where already holes in the core support that I just made some "L" brackets to attach to.

My install took awhile but I wasn't in a hurry seeing how I was waiting on the tranny. Working at a proficient pace I would say a few hours. As far pics there isn't really anything to see the cooler is completely hidden, even knowing it is there it is still really hard to see. The only thing you can see is the hoses in the second pic which looking down the back left side of the radiator.

I got it from summit a few back and had it on my chevelle but didn't need it any more after the t56 swap. So decided to put it to use on the GXP. I don't remember what it cost, but definitely worth it.

Sorry to post in an old thread. I just got my b & m tranny cooler installed and it was placed basically behind the license plate but on the drivers side. It seems like a shitty spot since only the top quarter of the cooler gets direct air flow. Today I toured around coming from work and the temp finally hit 179 as I got home. This is in heavy city traffic where normally it'd be over 200 HOWEVER what worries me is that up here in Canada it is now 14 Fahrenheit. People in Texas are saying there's never gets over 180 and that's in Texas! So if mine is flirting with 180 when its 14 is that a good sign its going to get hot again when the weather gets warmer? My tranny was hitting 200's when it was around 32 outside. Also they mounted it so that the inlet and outlet are on the bottom.

I have a few tips for making sure the transmission fluid doesn't get hot.
Have you checked your fluid level when the transmission fluid is at 180 degrees? There's instructions in the owner's manual on the procedure for checking it. You might be a few ounces low, especially since you have been running hot consistently, probably every day it sounds like. Being an ounce or so low seems to affect the temp quite a lot. Also, the fluid should be changed every 40k miles (instead of every 50k miles like I believe the owner's manual suggests).
If you drive in manual mode (as I have been doing for years without ever using Drive), you should not be using 4th gear to accelerate unless you are doing over 60 or 65 mph because not only will your temp increase, but it's also bad for mileage. By only using 4th when you are able to maintain a high speed (or when, for example, shifting into it at 40 to coast a long way to a red light) your temps will not really be affected.
Also, if you are in a 35 mph speed limit area, it's easier on the tranny and your gas mileage if you accelerate somewhat aggressively to around 30 mph in first, shift into 2nd only til around 35, then shift into third. Using 2nd for acceleration below around 30 mph is pretty bad for mileage and is a bit hard on the tranny it seems. I actually do most of my acceleration in 1st. If I'm going to be going 45 mph, I'll accelerate somewhat aggressively in 1st til 40, hit 2nd, and basically immediately go into 3rd. This obviously does not work in the slightest bit if you have a car in front of you.
As far as sitting in traffic goes, you might as well just put it in Drive (if the traffic is somewhat moving) or put the car in park if the traffic really isn't moving. If you're sitting there with your foot on the brake and the car in M or D the temps are going to climb.
